Mac vs. Windows
I'm new to the scene and am sure someone can point me to the proper thread where this has been hashed innumerable times, but what is the difference between Logos experience on a PC and a Mac?
Why would one prefer over the other?

There's really very little difference at all. Logos doesn't need to be a factor in deciding whether you buy a Mac or a PC.

Thanks. From what I understand the interface and functionality of the program is about the same. What about performance due to differing OSes? Does Apple have any edge due to it being a better OS as some suggest?

As a dyed in the wool Apple Fan Boy it pains me to say that on machines of equal standard capability in other respects there is not a lot to choose between Windows and MacOS as far as Logos is concerned.
It is the other things, especially 'total cost of ownership' that should swing your decision.

I wonder how big a factor that is these days - I get the sense that the difference has changed but I don't have any data to back that up!

I reckon it comes down to individual cases, and probably always has.
Much depends on how long you plan to keep a machine? Will the owner be content to use the supplied Office Suite on a Mac or do they have a phycological need to have an Office 365 subscription. Which cloud services will they want. Which photo editing apps do they consider essential.
I have very few apps on my machine that i have paid extra money for, even Logos is theoretically free 😊 Others may feel that they need extra bits. It just means that one has to face up to ones predilections and then work out what they will cost over say seven years.

The PC has improved considerably under Windows 10, so the main consideration is the manufacturer (Dell, Acer, HP, etc.) and their ability to put together a decent hardware platform. Apple usually put together a decent hardware platform, but updates to Mac OS can impact Logos more than updates to Windows 10, and the cost of ownership is higher. I stick with one manufacturer for Windows laptops, but prefer the freedom of assembling my own desktop computer for Windows.
The Windows - Android combination is effective for mobile devices. Again, I stick with one manufacturer.
The Mac - mobile combination from Apple is effective e.g. iPad/iPhone, and Logos apps for iOS seem to be more advanced than Logos apps for Android.
I have used Mac as a business machine, but always preferred Windows for personal use because I like to tinker and assemble my own machine (I started this before laptops became viable devices). My laptops usually last 4 years before upgrading, and I don't go for high-end performers e.g. i5 over i7, and under $AUS900 ($US640). Logos has always performed adequately for me, and I run two versions simultaneously (currently, Logos 7 and Logos 8) in 8 GB RAM.

Hate to disagree, but it has been my experience (using Logos on both) that Logos runs much better in the MAC world...most everything does.

So, most people have a solid state hard drive on their Macs. It's apple to oranges unless you also have a solid state hard drive on a PC. I'd highly recommend having a solid state harddrive to run logos with at sensible amount of memory.

Another item missing from equation is free Apple support & education after purchase that is available in Apple Stores, which includes free hardware diagnosis.
Over many years have tinkered with lots of Apple and PC hardware. Due to shrinking hardware size, replacing individual components is challenging. Worldwide PC shipments in fourth quarter 2018 shows Apple is the # 4 manufacturer worldwide in terms of units shipped:
- 24.2 % Lenovo
- 22.4 % HP Inc
- 15.9 % Dell
- 7.2 % Apple
- 6.1 % Acer
- 5.6 % Asus
- Others
Thankful for an iPhone that integrates well with macOS. Disclaimer: shutdown my Windows 10 laptop and desktop computer for downsize move in 2017 so they are now gathering dust from non-use. Most days use 27" iMac with retina display and MacBook Air running macOS 10.13.6

Very true.
Personally, I think MAC has brought better quality overall to the market. So, I'm thankful for that! They have really challenged Windows to do better. I don't mind using a MAC at all. The reason I personally like PC over MAC is because I like the 10 UI better plus I love to get more hardware for less. As for phones, it's the same reason I use an Android.

I have been a Mac man for years. I ran Logos 4-8 on a 2011 Macbook Air with 128 SSD and 4 gb of Ram. It is showing it's age. I was looking to update but just couldn't afford to go with Mac and get what I wanted.
Recently my wife bought a PC laptop with Windows 10 and a SSD, I was impressed! So yesterday I built a desktop for my office. It has i5 8400, 2.8 Ghz, 6 core/thread. 16 Gb Ram and a 512 M.2 (onboard GPU so far)
It runs excellent. I am very pleased. 99% of what I do is in the Logos program and so it is an easy switch. Now, I don't know if I will get 8 years out of it like I did my Mac, but for now this works great!

I'll be an outlier in this thread.
While feature parity is now the closest it's ever been, Windows support for non-Western characters still seems to be more bug-free.

I regularly use Logos on both Mac and Windows. Once you load Logos there is no noticeably significant difference. If you want to read more about how each platform runs the program check out the Logos Wiki.
