Actually, although this is an often cited commentary, the one by Carson in Pillar Commentary series, and the one by Ramsey in NICNT are much better. I also like Borchert (NAC) better. By better I mean more helpful to me as a preacher. I've been preaching through the entire gospel of John for just over 2 years (taking time off now and again for Advent, and other important days on the calendar). I've found Carson to be most helpful to me most of the time.

While we're talking commentaries on John, don't overlook C.K. Barrett: https://www.logos.com/product/46707/gospel-according-to-john I did what Rich is doing, only with the first edition of Barrett back in the early 1960's. (Tempus fugit)

yes, as Richard DeRuiter pointed out some may have favorites beyond Brown’s works, and even his scholarship and thinking has evolved on John (see more recent works on his thinking), but his AYB commentarones are still a standard and he makes good theological points.
not to mention this is an AYB sale...
I was wondering what the forum lurkers think of LTJ’s pastoral epistles. I’m sure several will disagree with his assumptions but I thought I heard somewhere that they were thorough volumes?
I like Apples. Especially Honeycrisp.

This time period is a budding interest for me.....I was thinking of getting 1-2 Maccabees but I already have https://www.logos.com/product/45701/eerdmans-commentary-on-the-bible and I am not sure I would need more in-depth right now (?).

Any time I see something that ranks in the top 5 at Best Commentaries, I look closely at my budget to see if I can make it happen.
