I hope this would change.
Many Logos 7 Fundamentals were just given away. Those new customers shouldn't end up with bad impressions about upgrading their software.
(FL keeps trying to clear up any myths about upgrading, but this seems to run contrary to the typical reassurances.)
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

Why are they doing this "no dynamic pricing" foolishness? What's the reasoning and justification for that? For new people they'll pay full price, for current users they'll get even more money from us than we've already spent on the few items we don't have. What's the deal with no dynamic pricing?

Hopefully the individual I shared the free 7 with will not be disappointed, though I tried being honest with him regarding FL's recent failures at upgrading the program and customer awareness.

I had purchased and have given away L7 Fundamentals. I guess I am not surprised or disappointed because I knew that L7 did not offer Dynamic Pricing so I was not expecting L8 Fundamentals to change (I was not even sure they would update the library to L8 either.)
i also was expecting L8 Basic to come out for free and encouraged the person I gifted L7 to just upgrade to that when it was available Since it is free as well. I would think that some receiving a Base Package for free wouldn’t be disappointed that they got great software and hundred of dollars of resources at no cost to them L7 still works perfectly fine (some would argue better than L8, but that’s not the point.)
Might be worth noting what the overlap between L7 and L8 is to see if it is worth being dissapointed over (are we talking about 10 resources difference? 20 Different? or 5?) I cant tell because I own much more than L7 Fundamentals.

True, and L8 Basic is a (software) upgrade path, unfortunately it is not a library upgrade path.
One of the misconceptions is that some customers expect to have to upgrade to the same tier -- L7 Fundamentals to L8 Fundamentals -- and anything less is some form of "downgrade."
While that's not true -- you keep what you own -- how do we expect new customers to understand the artificial complexity of upgrade choices, especially when this "no dynamic pricing" policy creates additional questions.
- We've got access-only licenses, temporary licenses, and permanent licenses.
- We can rent or own resources, and rent or own features.
- We can upgrade the software, or choose between new resources, new features, or both.
While Logos is a great program, upgrading should be simpler, less confusing, and more rewarding (both for the customer, and Faithlife).

Suggest having L7 Fundamentals gift recipient check L8 Fundamentals price:
Personally have a Faithlife account with $ 0.00 order total that includes L7 Fundamentals gift plus L7 & L8 Basic packages.
Keep Smiling [:)]
