8.3 Beta 2: Fresh Installation
Summary
- Uninstalled 8.3 Beta 1 and deleted the Logos folder
- Started Installation of 8.3 Beta 2
- Chose Custom to
drive - Set Auto Download of Updates to NO (default = YES)
- Signed In + "Preparing Library"
- "Download Your Logos 8 Library" window appeared
- Chose Recommended 345/2551 resources @ 6.76 GB;
- (Everything was 2551 resources @ 20.99 GB)
- Set Auto Download of New Resources to NO (default)
- Step 1 - Preparing to Download
- Step 2 - Downloading 3.76 GB resources
- Step 3 - Indexing
- Sounded like indexing, but No log for about 8 minutes.
- Log showed 8 Library resources indexed (checking 164?) EDIT: understand 164 = 152 datasets + 12 resources
- Pressed button to "Open Logos"
- All resources = 2255 (2113 in v 8.2)
- On This device = 12 (see below)
- Presumably, only 8 needed indexing
- Also presume this was because I set Auto Download of Updates to NO (Step 2.2)
- But why were any resources downloaded (these 12 are not useful)?
- Note absence of Ratings (My Tags are OK for these 12).
- Notification icon showed:
- 481.6 MB of Updates waiting
- 12 updated resources
- 152 Updated datasets (including non-used RVI datasets)
- Downloaded 481.6 MB
- On This device = 84 (see below)
- These are more useful, but My Tags and my Ratings are missing from many of them.
- No Commentaries, so a Passage Guide is useless
- Did not include BKC & SBLGNT which are frequently used (and loaded with my last used layout)

- EDIT: Resource Types are not balanced
- Not enough Encyclopedias, Monographs
- No Commentaries, no Concordances
- Too many Lectionary
- Logos folder is 8.28 GB. Resources folder is 7.04 GB for 236 files.
- 152 datasets were "Updated". 152 datasets + 84 on device = 236 files (OK)
- The Estimate was 6.76 GB for 345 resources
- Looking at "Not on this device"
- user Series are also missing.
- EDIT: one PB is included that cannot can be downloaded (the one other PB is not in Library)
- many Hidden resources are included, accounting for the 2255 vs 2113 in Logos 8.2
- AFAIK these are still listed in Program Settings > Hidden Resources!

I believe some of the oddness is due to a problem that we've resolved for beta 3 that would cause a subset of the selected resources to download initially. Anything I don't directly address below is likely related to that issue. I would love for you to run another installation test after Beta 3 ships.

This sounds to me like your syncing process has not completed. Is your syncing icon still spinning? If so, please wait until it stops and see if the ratings show up. If not, please upload logs.

That sounds correct. One PB was presumably uploaded, and the other was not.

Are you saying that you you have Hidden resources that are showing up in your Library? This is definitely a bug. Please upload a log.

If you are making a brand new installation, then the application will prompt you for what you want to download (although it appears there may be problems with hidden resources incorrectly getting downloaded).

What is your highest Base Package? I can then check what should be downloaded under recommended for Commentaries.

This sounds to me like your syncing process has not completed. Is your syncing icon still spinning? If so, please wait until it stops and see if the ratings show up. If not, please upload logs.
Sync icon is not spinning - all items are up to date. I tried restarting Logos and a Sync Repair, but a lot of user metadata is still missing.
Are you saying that you you have Hidden resources that are showing up in your Library? This is definitely a bug. Please upload a log.
Hidden resources are in Library, inflating the resource count. They include 60x Thru the Bible Commentary, 42x CAL Targums, RSVCE, Pictorial Lives of the Saints.
Unfortunately, I lost the original log. I will run another installation test with Beta 3.
We've got an open case to investigate some apparent problems with the expected download size that is reported.
Make it clear that it is a download size, and separate the number of datasets from the number of library resources.

Silver from Logos 6 is my highest. BKC is my favourite, but NAC, EBC (old), or Tyndale Commentaries would be fine.

Dave, I think I understand what's happening here now. It's probably the resources that were not downloaded (and in your case, that's most of your resources) are not showing your custom metadata. I'm looking into a fix now.

Of the 84 that were downloaded with the installation, 53 don't have a user Rating, and are missing other user metadata.
None of the 59 Tyndale commentaries that I subsequently scanned from a folder have user metadata.
The majority (2090) of resources "Not on this device" have no user metadata.
The only way I get user metadata is to sync it from another installation e.g. with new resources

Can I ask where you are getting the installer to do a fresh installation of the Beta versions? I'm looking for the beta installer for macOS

Look for a link in the post that notifies you about new software versions being available e.g. Logos 8.3 Beta 3 (8.3.0.0007)

This has been fixed in 8.3 Beta 4.
