Logos 8 Exegetical Guide poorly planned

I have had Logos Bible Software for 20 years, before it was Logos, and really enjoyed using it for Bible study and sermon preparation. I recently upgraded to 8 and am sorry I did. As a pastor, I enjoyed the Passage Guide and Exegetical Guide tabs automatically opening side by side. It was nice switching back and forth. Such an important, yet simple tool is not available on 8. I have to drag or click Exegetical every time I want to use it. I emailed Logos and was told the technicians are working on it. It seems it should have been solved before selling the product. Has anyone come up with their own solution?

Welcome to the forums. I'm not sure I understand the problem. You should be able to create a saved layout with them beside each other and have them both open at the same time. You've posted in the desktop forum - is that where you are having the problem?

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

did you know the passage guide is still an easy get

Open guides and click on Passage Guide an/or the other guides.

Now after you open them and arrange them.  Open the Layout menu in the upper right and choose to save the layout. Also if you set Logos to open the most recent desktop, in settings it will open this layout each time.

Hi and thanks to all. Here is the problem, which I failed to explain. I know I can save a new layout with exegetical next to passage guide. In order to actually have it open to that saved layout, you must also go to the "GO" box and type in "Program Settings". Then put in the name of the saved layout and it will open to that layout. Unfortunately, if you go to the home button to read the different boxes and type in a Scripture reference, it  opens up to the original page and you have to click on exegetical again. I realize it sounds picky, but the old Logos would always open to the layout with exegetical. When doing a sermon, it is nice to have it all there without the extra step.

Logos was very nice and said the technicians are working on it, but I just wondered why it wasn't fixed prior to selling the product. Don't get me wrong, it is still the best Bible software available. Had I known, I would have just kept the old before upgrading to 8.

    Hi Tom

If you put a passage in  the Go box, and then choose the 'Open Passage Study Layout to <verse>' option, it will open the built in Passage Study Layout.

If you then customise this layout, you can save it so that it is the same as you like the next time you want to do a Passage Study. The default HOME PAGE 'Passage Study Layout' is the one to change to add the Exegetical Guide

If not already, the Go Box should default to 'Open Passage Study Layout to <verse>' the next time you come to it, so you will just be able to tap 'Enter' on keyboard rather than clicking from the dropdown.

Edit - Changed picture to correctly show the Home Page Passage Study Layout was shown as being amended, not the Quickstart

Hi and thanks again, but it doesn't become the "default" page. It opens in the new saved format, but reverts without Exegetical when you change the Scripture verse or go the home page and return. It's okay. Logos apologized for the problem and is working to fix it.

I amended my post to correctly show it is the Home Page layout that needs amended, not the Quickstart Layout.

    Kevin,

It seems to be working. I had missed that one step. Thanks for being so kind and thoughtful. I find Logos customers are very interested in helping one another.
