I don't think I understand filters or notes

I have an egregious number of notes in my Zondervan Wide Margin Bible. I upgraded to the Full Feature Edition of Logos 8 hoping to move all my notes into digital form so I can search and so forth. Some of my notes are in the form of my own cross references for a given topic. For example one of my notes is titled A New Covenant Based on Love and in it I have added Anchors for

  • Hebrews 10:16
  • John 15:9-17
  • Romans 5:9
  • 1 John 3:1
  • 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
  • Matthew 22:37-40
  • Matthew 24:6-14
  • John 14:23-24
  • Matthew 5:46
  • Luke 11:39-42
  • 1 Timothy 1:5
  • 1 John 4:18-19.

The order is meaningful for me. Maybe that is part of what I am doing wrong. Anyway, I think I've entered all my notes and so I am flip through my bible, book by book (backwards) and I come to 1 John and so I click All at the top of Notes to remove all the facets(?) and then I click more >> under Bible Book and click 1 John and this note does not show up in the list even though it contains two anchors in 1 John. What am I doing wrong?

I can replicate that, looks like a bug, seems only highlights appear in the list.

I had one 'Note' and one 'Highlight' in James, only the hightlight showing, despite it showing Notes (1) and Highlight(1). On trying to click 'Notes' as a filter it crashed my logos out. There is another thread where Valerie had a crash trying to filter notes earlier clicking on a book, and this might be the cause of the crashes, or maybe a different problem.

    Hopefully quick fix.

Edit- ok not just highlight, most notes do show....some don't...trying to work out which don't. Might be if they are generic anchors instead of bible specific.

It seems to be if the notes are generic eg 'John 1:1' as opposed to a specific version eg 'John 1:1 ESV'.

If all notes for that bible book are non-specific one, or you try to filter down to the non-specific one, Logos will crash out.

Edit:-  Possible any note not anchored to that specific version will cause similar problem, I cannot further test now.

It maybe that there is supposed to be a hidden filter that only displays notes for that specific version, at least until they cross link notes between versions, which is being worked on.

Please post a screenshot of the note - showing the anchors - as a reply to this thread. Use the paperclip icon in the forum editor to include the picture.

I believe that this is a current limitation (bug?) of the Bible Book facet. Only the first anchor in a note will show up in the filters list.

Here is the note that the filter finds

Here is the note the filter does not find.

My suggestion would be to register for this free webinar that Adam Borris is going to host Wednesday. Even if you can't attend the live webinar, if you register they will email a link to the webinar for later viewing.

Already did. I shared a note file titled "Logos 8 Bugs and Feature Requests" where I am collecting all the issues I want to ask about at the webinar.

BTW, I did a little experimenting and noticed that when I filter to specific book of the bible. The first anchor is always in that book so I think whoever said that Logos only considers the first anchor maybe correct.

That's correct. We have a case to fix this. I'm not sure when we'll get to it, but I'll check in with the team. Thanks for your feedback.
