Desktop-->Mobile Device Option No Longer in Information?

Hi.

In previous versions of Logos, you could go into the information panel of a resource and check a box to have it automatically download to your phone/tablet/whatever using the mobile app. (You could also use the same to remove it from the device.)

In L8, if a book is already on my phone, it shows the "Devices" information, but if it hasn't been downloaded yet, it's not there. I can go to my phone (still v. 7) and download the resource and then it will update on the desktop and I'll have the option, but otherwise it's not there.

Am I missing something? Did the option get moved/changed/dropped/bugged?

Not a big deal, but any light anyone could shed would be appreciated.

I still see the option just as I did in L7.

I can still see it, but it's hit and miss.

For example, I can't see it on any of the Tyndale Commentaries or the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary - both included in a L8 package that I purchased, although other resources from that have the "Devices" field in Information.

I still see the option just as I did in L7.

Let me illustrate with a few screenshots.

This is a book where the option is now available--but it only came up after I manually downloaded on the mobile:

This is what most informational panels now look like unless I had previously downloaded it at some point on my phone. The Devices field/option (whatever it should be called) simply isn't there:

I've confirmed that this isn't one of those rare cases where I resource is not allowed on mobile. It is; but I can download it only from the mobile app itself. I can't choose it from the desktop any more.

I'm seeing "Devices" on resources that I have never downloaded on a mobile device.

I can't shed any light on the subject (yet) but can confirm that I notice the same issue. Noticed it initially on the L8 Release, and the same on the Beta.

At least for me, this seems to have been fixed with 8.1.

Nope. The bug persists. I got a new resource today and don't have the option on the Information page to send it to my mobile. I can however download it directly within the mobile app's library.

    Please fix this.

Which specific resource? I don't think it has been mentioned yet in this thread, but there are resources for which the publisher will not allow this feature (or at least this has been the case in the past... and no, I don't mean "non-mobile enabled" resources... I mean you could download the resource on mobile, you just could not manage that resource from the desktop).

It was one that was just released a few hours ago:

Reardon, P.H., 2015. Reclaiming the Atonement: An Orthodox Theology of Redemption: The Incarnate Word, Chesterton, IN: Ancient Faith Publishing.

But I don't think this is the case. I also have Lange's commentary on Ephesians, which is PD, open, and the option is not there either:

Same with several other resources I have open. So either the bug persists or it got fixed then snuck back in.

To repeat: the information panel no longer gives the download to mobile option UNLESS it has previously been downloaded before. Resources download directly from the app library just fine.

It shows up for most books. But, for some (Example: Charles, R.H. A Critical and Exegetical Commentary on the Revelation of St John. Edinburgh: T&T Clark International, 1920) it does not.

I don't know that this is in any way related... But the "Download to" function has not been working for me at all the last few days. I assumed it was something that was not being kept moving forward and so I've been downloading a few each day manually via the tablet until I get back to where it was (had to wipe it and restart...ugh!). I don't think I have any books that are available offline except the ones I have manually downloaded from the tablet itself. And, though I have not checked in detail, I suspect the same is true of my phone based on a very cursory look.

I am not seeing this, but I too am seeing some anomalies.

    • Zondervan titles used to be prohibited (from being mobile managed on desktop). It appears that most of them are active for me. The old prohibition may have been removed.
    • A number of Baker titles are not showing the download to mobile section... for some reason (coincidence?) they are all near the top of the library window (higher in the search results).
    • A title which WAS downloaded, but was recently deleted from my device, does NOT show the download to mobile option.

That is clearly not the case for me. Do you have thousands of downloads, or a more manageable number? (no more than 100 or so)? It is not advisable to download your entire library.

I've been downloading a few each day manually via the tablet until I get back to where it was (had to wipe it and restart...ugh!)

I have not maintained this list in recent times, but there was a time when I had to wipe my device frequently due to beta testing. One thing I found helpful was to tag my "go to" resources with a unique tag (i.e. mobiledownload). From there, you can filter your mobile library for those resources and use the "download all" to download just those books.

    JT,

That method (tagging) worked fine until recently. I use a tag set as "MobileBooks." I assumed when I wiped the tablet I could just go back and cause Logos to push them to the new install. But none of them ever moved until I manually went to the book on the tablet and downloaded it. It has not been that big of a hassle as I have internet available 99% of the time nowadays. But, there was a period where regular wifi was not a possibility and having downloads was a bigger deal. And, having read Sean's ongoing issues with a similar problem I wondered if the two might be related.

You did not explicitly state this, so for clarification: On the new installation, you filtered your library for your tag (MobileBooks) and hit "download all." Right? If not, try that next time. When the library is filtered, "download all" only downloads the filtered results.

We'll look into this. Thanks for the report!

    The bug persists.

This bug seems to have been fixed, at least for me, with 8.5.0.0026, though I don't see mention of it in the release notes.
