Sluggish

Just a quick question. I have an Intel 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo machine with 2 Gigs of memory. Normally, I don't have a ton of other programs running, but whenever have run any of the Alpha's so far, they have seemed a bit sluggish to me. Is this at all due to the alpha nature of the program or is it simply that it is trying so hard to work across so many resources. I think I saw a little improvement b/w Alpha 14 and 15 in the area of Biblical people loading so that is where I began thinking that it wasn't my machine but the software. I am trying to determine if I will really need to upgrade my Ram to 4 Gigs, or if I should see the response time reducing as the program becomes more stable. Any thoughts?

On 2007 model iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB RAM installed, concur with sluggish - waiting minutes for Biblical People and media stuff, especially Music to load. Seems Passage Guide and Exegetical Guide have lots to load. For quicker response, seems minimizing open and linked resources helps.

For memory upgrade, suggest using Activity Monitor to watch free memory:

When free memory becomes narrow sliver, all programs show spinning beach ball for awhile - part of my motivation to purchase newer Mac - planning memory upgrade to 8 GB since want to run PC 4.0b version in virtual machine and Logos 4 Mac along with several other applications.

Also learned in Bible Word Study to wait after "loading" pop-up appears - rewarded with useful diagram showing hebrew lemma translated into various greek lemmas:

I hear you on the faster machine I watch the activity monitor frequently. I splurged on iMac 3.3 GHz with 8 GB! While indexing I do word study's but yes I do wait for it to load as well!

Short answer. Yes that is the nature of Alpha. Speed will come later as I understand it.

... that is the nature of the alpha stage of the project and I hope it will significantly improve.

If it is still a little sluggish, then my plan is:

Max out the RAM to 4GB.
Replace the existing 5400 RPM hard drive (dead easy with this Macbook model) with a 7200 RPM drive.

Amazingly (to me) option (2) is cheaper than maxing the RAM, even if I increase the capacity from 160 GB to 500 GB!
