Working offline
Are all the books in the Logos package downloaded onto my computer or do I have to be connected to use them?

Currently they are all downloaded into the desktop / laptop environment so available offline.
Work is going on to provide options to have some resources remain in the cloud and for us to download them when required (principally this will help people with limited storage space) and this would require an online connection. This will probably be available in 8.4 but will depend on how development goes.

Leslie,
I use Logos 8 extensively offline, as high speed internet is sparse where I live, and it works with excellence. While we live in such a connected world, having something so powerfully work near full capacity offline is nice! Enjoy!

One other related question. It looks like all highlighting and documents are backed up to the cloud and available on other devices. If you are not online to sync is there a way to backup the work you have done?

Not really - at least not in a supported way.
It is possible to take backup copies of the databases that hold notes / highlights / other documents but trying to restore them in isolation to the rest of the Logos environment could cause problems. And they will be updated when you next connect online.
Are you expecting to be offline for significant periods of time?

This is a good word of caution. You could, of course, also backup your entire Logos folder (which would be less likely to break things if you wanted to do a restore). If you do wish to back up individual subfolders or databases, those could be sent to a Logos tech for restore purposes as needed.

What I do is I use my cell phone's HotSpot feature to backup/sync notes and highlights, as it does not use that much data in the process, and it takes a relatively short amount of time to do so. This depends on your cell phone plan as well, however, as not all including mobile hotspot data. There are a few features that do require internet, which I use with my phone as well. Honestly, Logos doesn't use that much data on my mobile hotspot, with the exception of when it downloads a major update to the software (that's when I make a trip to the Library with my laptop!).

Thanks for the great ideas. I am a GIS person so always worry about backing up data. I am currently living in Africa and do not always have internet available but could use my phone hot spot if not much data is being transferred. Doing a backup of the Logos files for just in case sounds like a great idea also. My Logos/computer world would have to crash before I used the backedup files so I am sure I could get some the wonderful Logos techs to assist.

One additional note. There are some features and tools that are only partially available, or not available at all when offline.
