Indexing print resources

Hello everyone,

I want to be able to connect my print library to my Logos studying so that when studying a particular passage, I can find print books of mine that reference that passage just like I can find Logos resources that do.

I'm guessing most Logos users also have a collection of print books. For me, over the years, I've acquired a lot of great print resources, including "The works of..." style sets of puritan authors, commentary sets, a collection of Luther's sermons, and similar books.

I really love how I can study a passage in Logos and find all the Logos resources that reference that passage. This is a supremely useful study tool. I'd love it if it could also search my offline, print books and tell me, hey, look in Luther, volume 5, page xxx where he preached on this passage.

More than likely, this would involve extensive work actually manually indexing these books and creating some type of file. I know there's a way to do "personal resources" but don't know if this would work or how.

Any tips? Links to blog posts or sites?

First, welcome to the forums.

I don't think you could duplicate the search capabilities that exist in Logos for your print library. You could create a personal book that lists your print resources, but that would not do much for you in terms of searching the data inside that resource.

Perhaps you could create a a personal book that lists your print resources and then associate topics, themes, etc that could be searched, but that is probably not what you're looking for.

I gave way the majority of my print library years ago. Those dead-tree resources that remain don't do much more for me than hold my bookcase down.

It could work if the majority of the resources are in the public domain, otherwise you need permission (from publisher/author) to create your Personal Book. But it requires extensive work to get to a level that approaches the work done for your purchased resources.

If I remember correctly, in libronix you could download files for resources you didn’t own and then when you did a search it would search that resource. Even though you couldn’t open it you could see the result. I liked this and would sometimes influence me to purchase a resource.

Libronix allows you to Search Locked Resources, but the FTP server is no longer available for this, assuming that the OP's Print books are available as Libronix resources!

So, the OP needs to create PB file(s) from his Print book(s)!
