Removing Handouts in 8.5
Handout documents will no longer be able to be created in Logos 8.5. Handout documents were an experimental feature in Logos 4 on Windows (it was never supported on Mac), which has been officially deprecated for several years. ("Handout document" is not to be confused with the printable "handout" view of Sermon documents, which is still supported.) Removing the ability to create Handouts lets us focus on improving the tools most people use, and stops the program offering a feature to new users that we know we won't be maintaining or improving.
Users with existing Handouts will still be able to view and edit existing Handout documents, but there will no longer be an option to create new Handouts in 8.5. Thank you for understanding.

And here I thought that this had already happened. Handouts are the feature I forget about because there are hardly any complaints about them (ever) on the forums.
Workaround for the one in a million people who need to make and use and not delete/erase many handouts (and can't stay pre-8.5):
1. Before updating to 8.5, create a few dozen (or more) handout documents, saved according to some reasonable scheme: ExtraHandout1, ExtraHandout2, etc.
2. After 8.5, edit at your leisure.

Handouts was a great idea, rather cool, that I never used. Always thought I might someday. Made a few samples. I am sad to see it go, but won't miss it. I have the samples just in case.

Good Riddance!

It's the same for me. I always thought handouts were a great idea, but I rarely used them. I've made a number of Extra Handouts so I have the option of using them at a later date.

I've never used document sharing in Logos, but down the road if there is a user who didn't see this thread and wants to create a handout, would I be able to share one of my extra handouts that they could then edit?

Gosh this is the first I'm hearing of this... I really liked this tool

Yes, please! Share a couple or a few for those of us who read this too late. Thanks!

I'm trying to share a blank handout, but I'm not sure how to do it. Does anyone know how? Thanks.

I tried to do that using the FaithLife "Groups" and "Documents" etc but never succeeded. Sorry.

It appears that the "Share" function has been disabled for Handouts. Is there another way anyone knows to "share" these docs?

I know that this won't help with Handouts, but in the future, if Faithlife is going to remove a feature (like creating new handouts), would it be feasible for a message to pop up when someone open Logos?
Not everyone visits the forums regularly and something like this should be communicated to Logos users.

I haven't update my laptop to 8.5 yet. Right now it is getting repaired. When I get it back, I'll look to see if the "share" function for handouts is disabled on it.

Yes. It is very hard for a company to know how its products are used "in the wild". What I need or want from the software may be different from someone else. They cannot keep or maintain everything. But some warning would have been nice.

I agree. I was lucky enough to catch this but I wish they kept it in or at least asked who uses it. I find it quite useful. I hope they bring it back or something similar one day. It looks great when teaching and saves me work 😇

I just got my laptop back and am still running 8.4 SR-1. Unfortunately handouts cannot be shared. [:(][:(]
I wonder if they ever could be because other document types cannot be shared either, such as prayer lists (this makes sense) and word puzzles.
