Bug?: power lookup issue

I am using AFAT and when I click on a word usually it takes me to the BDB for definition. But lately it takes me to power lookup and it shows a different word with not content. Power lookup always shows me the same word. It is like it is stuck. I then click it off and try clicking a word in AFAT again and the same thing happens. So that now I have to right click the word select the lemma and then BDB.

I went to other Bibles, even LXX and it worked normal. Power lookup did not surface, but the lexicon or dictionary entry did.

I tried turning off Logos and rebooting. I tried clearing the 'follow' on the Power lookup menu. But it still does it.

Any help to reset this is appreciated.

    Greetings Jeff.

Once I had decrypted your T(and F)LAs I opened 'The Hebrew Bible: Andersen-Forbes Analyzed Text". (2008).

In order for me to get it to do anything in regard to a look up I had to double click on a word (that doesn't include the running information that appears at the bottom of the panel.

When I double click I get 'The Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament' which I guess is due to the way i have things prioritised.

However for the first time in a long time I did open up the Power Lookup panel and could not get it to respond in any way. It stubbornly remained totally blank.

Perhaps it might help some of the gurus if you posted a screen shot of your layout and told us something of your system.

I am using Logos 8.5 Beta 1 on MacOS 10.14.4

    Thanks Mike

I have 8.4.0.0035 on a pc Lenovo laptop, intel core i5, with an upgraded 500gb ssd. I use two screens. The AFAT is on one screen and the power lookup comes up on the laptop screen. Here is another thing I just noticed too, when I right click the word the popup menu comes on and if I click power lookup of the word through that the screen populates with the information. But if I just do the double click the word to go to the BDB the power lookup comes on with a blank screen, though the word is there.

    I use two screens.

I can't diagnose on two screens. Does it work normally if you restrict Logos to the laptop screen? Is BDB your preferred lexicon?

    Hi, Dave,

BDB is my preferred lexicon. I docked AFAT to the laptop. It still does it. What is odd, is that some words I can double click and it goes to BDB, but others go to power lookup where it shows the word, but no content. One thing I noticed is that those words that go to BDB are those that are the root words like Daniel 2:22 גָּלֵא

However, those that are compound words like וּמְסַתְּרָתָא

    go to power lookup.

Another thing I noticed as I am exploring this issue, is that if I rt click on the word above the popup menu doesn't give me a lexicon option. But if I click on the lemma of the word then it does.

I tried that on גָּלֵא as well and the popup does give me lexicon options.

usually when I would dbl click a word it would go right to the lexicon no matter its form.

Hope this helps to figure this out.

I think Faithlife will have to step up, because I get different results.

I set BDB as preferred, followed by DBL Aramaic, DBL Hebrew and GHCLOT (Gesenius):

    In AFAT:

    • Dan 2:22  וּמְסַתְּרָתָא  goes to Power Lookup
    • Dan 2.22 גָּלֵא goes to  GHCLOT

    In LHB:

    • Dan 2:22  וּמְסַתְּרָתָא  goes to BDB
    • Dan 2.22 גָּלֵא goes to  BDB

Dan 2:4 - 7:28  is Aramaic. Perhaps AFAT is not correctly linked.

The prioritization of TDOT Vol. XVI made no difference. FL please comment.

Hope you're at least enjoying XVI ... not obvious in the TOC, but they stacked the Iranian/Persian titles right before the Grammar appendix. This volume will be handy, not just Daniel.

Hi Denise, I was going to sit this one out, but I changed my mind. Where exactly will it come in handy? I may exercise my option to return it if I cannot demonstrate its personal usefulness.

Well, (no offense) but if you don't need it, then you probably have more critical needs you want to solve.

In my case, I'm always interested in small details that bring life to the text. I just got it today, so a couple of interesting discussions (keeping in mind the language largely dates the usage; people tend to badly generalize across centuries).

    1. This discussion below is interesting, since he has the usual 4 and 7 meanings. But he also moves into Qumran, Enoch (lunar transformations), as well as Tel Dan and the fallen angels. Mmmm!

    2. I selected this one, mainly because I had been looking at the relationship of Samaritans, to the intruding judaic returnees, and exactly how that linked to Persia. IE, why/how would they literally admin it.

    Dave,

I think you may be on to something re: AFAT not correctly linked because of Aramaic. I went to the psalms for example and randomly clicked on words and every time it went to my lexicon. In the Aramaic portion of Daniel I think it goes to Power lookup because it doesn't recognize the Word. Even still power lookup doesn't give me any content.

    Hi Jeff,

I am sorry to hear that you have been having difficulty with this.  It seems that this may be a tech support issue, not a bug that needs to be reported.  I am sending you an email.
