-- Renamed “Automatically Download Updates” to “Automatically Start Downloads”.
WHY? I've been able to differentiate between those two settings because "Updates" tells me it's program updates as opposed to new resources. But "Automatically Start Downloads" doesn't communicate that.
"Updates" tells me it's program updates as opposed to new resources.
That's not actually how that behaves, so it's probably a good thing we've renamed it. The tooltip on the "?" button may provide some clarification, or see the 8.5 notes here: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/181030/1047066.aspx#1047066

OK, thanks for the explanation. I've been mistaken all along. Not that the new names are going to clarify things for people, IMO. It's all still pretty mysterious under the hood, and the nice explanation given in the 8.5 notes will have to be dug up by people to fully understand this.
Does the explanation in the tooltip on the "?" icon next to the setting clarify things at all? Do you have any suggestions for improved wording?
I don't have the beta (I'm on the stable channel, running 8.4), so I don't know what the new tooltip explanation is yet. It might be sufficient. Since I'm not beta testing, I'm willing to forfeit my right to give input on the wording. I probably shouldn't have even given feedback on the Release Notes.
The new settings makes the handling of new resources (YES) part of the Auto Download regime. The (NO) option works the same, but the explanation could be improved (as well as the behavior).
Yes, they "appear" in Library, but without a message/notification the user still won't know. Suggest:
No: New resources will be treated as Cloud Resources, and can be downloaded from Library at any time.
The "and new" is conditional. "Requires the application to be open" is unnecessary. Suggest:
Yes: Download application updates, datasets and updated resources. New resources will download only if Download New Resources is set to "Yes".
I think it would help if the Settings were reversed i.e. first decide on New resources, then decide whether to Auto download.
NOW, I received the 31.3 MB notification when Download New Resources was set to "Yes". Will they still be downloaded after changing to "No"? Will the notification change to reflect the new download size (it didn't change in this case, so there may be no New resources)?
I probably shouldn't have even given feedback on the Release Notes.
I'm glad that you did, Rosie. I expected that updates were about the program, and not the resources.
Thanks for the explanation, Andrew, as I had been confused by why the wording changed.
The tooltip wouldn't have helped me, since I wouldn't have felt there was a need to even view it.
(Another stable user who doesn't beta test, but reads the beta release notes to get an idea of what's been fixed.)
but reads the beta release notes

Thanks, It should be fixed now.
I'm still confused about downloads in 8.5, despite this thread and the note on the other one.
What if I want program and resource updates to download automatically but not to download new resources automatically?
Set "Automatically start download" to Yes, and "Download new resources" to No.
Oddly enough, the new wording of the settings is almost identical to the wording in your question.
What if I want program and resource updates to download automatically but not to download new resources automatically? Set "Automatically start download" to Yes, and "Download new resources" to No.
OK.
Similar. The "new" in the tooltip for "Automatically Start Downloads" makes it sound like setting ASD to Yes renders the "Download New Resources" setting irrelevant.
Thanks for the feedback.
