"Highlighting" Differences Between Desktop and Mobile

I was looking at another thread regarding highlighting and syncing and it caused me to look at a specific example from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  It is a resource I use frequently.  I made a number of highlights and underlines several years ago during formation classes while using the desktop app.  I thought I saw those when using my iPad during the same time frame but they are not there now.  I've tapped the "Sync Your Data" on the iPad.  No highlights, no underlines.  What could be the issue?

I am using:

Verbum 8.4 SR-1 (8.4.0.0047) on my Windows laptop (Windows 10 Home v1809 Build 17763.475)

Verbum 8.2.2 (8.2.2.0046) on my iPad Pro (iOS 12.2)

First screen shot is from the laptop, second screenshot from the iPad.

    Hi Deacon Steve,

I am sorry that you are having trouble with this.

Please close the App, sign into https://app.verbum.com on any device, and then try to sync your data again.  Let us know what happens.

I've logged out of the desktop app and the mobile app and signed into app.verbum.com but I'm not seeing anything regarding "sync data."  Is it some menu option?

signed into app.verbum.com but I'm not seeing anything regarding "sync data."

I believe the purpose of having you sign in to app.verbum.com was simply to activate the new notes system for you. You don't need to press any "sync data" button on the website. It is always synced!

I've logged out of the desktop app and the mobile app

you should log back in now.

Thanks for the reply.  I have some additional info that I'm not sure about.  I'll try to use some helpful terms but I may be describing it less accurately then needed.  Here we go ...

As mentioned, after logging off Verbum on laptop and iPad, I logged on to app.verbum.com on my Windows laptop but when I open the resource mentioned I did not see any highlights or underlines.  After a few moments of the "system" trying to "load data" I still did not see anything, but the resource loading "task" failed and "restarted" itself and tried to load the resource again.  It went through this cycle three times (I repeated it several times because I thought it very unusual that it would do this predictably), "re-loading" the resource and then "crashing" without ever showing any highlights or notes.  Weird [:S]   After the third time (loading the resource the fourth time) I get a "this page is having a problem loading" message."

I did not capture the individual iterations of "loading data", but the first screen shot is the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd iterations of "loading (no highlights) and the second screen shot illustrates the failure message.  Please compare with screen shots above.

    Again, thanks for the help.

I don’t think this matters, but for clarification: Joe didn’t ask you to log out on desktop, and there is no means to log out on mobile (other than to delete the app). None of this things should be a problem.

I tried visiting the website on my iPad and it cycled several times. Again, I don’t think that is a problem. The web app is new and I think still “beta.” It is my understanding that visiting the web app unlocks something on your account... or something like that. All Joe wanted you to do was to visit the site and log on. FWIW - when I visited the site, the visual filters were turned OFF, so no highlights would have shown, even though they were there. They appeared when I turned them on. Did you try that?

Now that you have visited the website, have you redownloaded the app on your iPad?

Oh... forgot to ask. I am not a windows user, but it is my understanding that Microsoft no longer supports internet explorer. Have you tried using other browsers? My guess is that this would not have a bearing on your primary issue, but it might on your use of the web app.

OK.  I logged on to app.verbum.com (yesterday) and this morning I just closed the resource in question to prevent the cycling.

I'm not sure how to toggle visual filters on that website so that step in not completed.

I'll delete and redownload the app on my iPad and post back with results.

And on the next post, I am using the Edge browser.

    Thanks again for helping.

I'm not sure how to toggle visual filters on that website so that step in not completed.

It is done the same way as on desktop... You click the "three circles" icon to select which filters to show/hide. These include notes & highlights, "bible text only" settings, etc.

I've deleted and reinstalled the mobile app on the iPad.  I'm not seeing any change based on having logged into app.verbum.com.  Still no highlights.

I realize now why I wasn't understanding what you had recommended regarding the visual filters icon on that particular resource (Catechism) in app.verbum.com - I could see the icon but it never stayed where I could click it because the window constantly cycles until the fourth time when it fails. ...never get a chance to click anything.

I opened a bible that I use frequently on app.verbum.com and did notice the filters were turned on and I could see highlighting and underlines.  No cycling with the bible - it stays open.  Also, I opened the bible on the mobile app and, sure enough, the highlighting is there.

Now I'm wondering of there is some other form of corruption going on with the Catechism resource.

    What do you think?

In the old system, all notes (including highlights) necessarily went into a note document. The visual filter had the ability to turn those on/off by document. I don’t think that is a current feature of mobile (but it should be).

On desktop, Do you know where these notes are stored And how they were organixed?

Is the resource downloaded? If not, do so. If so, delete and restart.

Deacon Steve, your previous screen shots indicate that you are using using "Catechism of the Catholic Church (U.S. Edition with Glossary and Index)” on your laptop and "Catechism of the Catholic Church" on your iPad. Those are two different resources.  Please check to make sure that you are looking at the same resource in both platforms, then let us know if you need further help.

    Boy, am I embarrassed [:$]

Indeed I was looking at the other version of the Catechism and not the US Edition.

Having opened the US edition on both desktop and iPad highlights appear as they should between them.  Problem solved.

It's not a major issue for me because I do not really use app.verbum.com, but the problem with the US Edition of the Catechism persists.  Cycling unexpectedly and no highlights showing there.  Maybe something to look at.

Thanks for your patience and help Joe and JT.  [:)]
