Memory maxing out
Hello there,
I have an iMac, mid-2017 release, 1 TB fusion drive with 8 GB RAM. Recenly my memory's been maxing out, forcing me to shut down apps, a problem I've not had before. Logos usually consumes quite a bit of memory, but am wondering if there's a memory leak or something in the latest update, causing it to max out. I have managed with a smaller memory on my laptop before (4GB).
Please check the attached pics. The 2 GB RAM is when its idle. Nothing's being done with Logos, there are 4 tabs open (4 commentaries). I wasn't even using it then.
The 2.21 GB RAM is when I ran a search on the Sermon Guide.
Even if there's no memory leak in any of the updates, surely, it can be programmed for a more efficient use of onboard memory? This is a huge consumption on resources. My iMac is very new and I can't afford to upgrade the RAM on it, or I would. Logos is great - but please do consider streamlining your memory usage - not an unfair request?
Bless,
Leo

I’m quite certain in order for Logos staff to help you, they need to to provide log. Search and find one of the page in logos.com to see how to do it.
Did you make any change that would disable virtual memory a.k.a. swap? Since the you use fusion drive it could be the reason for it to be disabled even if you didn’t manually changed anything (I‘m not sure about this but the design of fusion drive having a small SSD make it not a very good device to also have swap space so may be by default it is turned off. Google it to check this.)
If there’s virtual memory then it shouldn’t quite when memory is out (unless it is filling it up too.) Again more info is needed. You could try to type top in the terminal and attach what you see.
Unfortunately Logos is demanding, and 8GB RAM or fusion drive is not in its favor. Again provide log to the staffs to see if they can help. But likely it‘s just a low spec with possibly a wrong swap setup.

Hi Fred,
FL recently changed the logging information page...you'll have to update the link in your signature. See my signature for the updated link [:)]

Thanks all - very helpful! And interesting. I didn't know that about the fusion drive. Will check.
Interestingly, in opening Verbum again with logging, the memory dropped to 347 MB for the opening page and rising to 800 MB for the same setup (4 tabs). It went to 1 GB for the sermon guide, but that's still half of what it was consuming. The controlled environment in opening it certainly seems to have shut down something problematic.

Couldn't recreate it. It's been a problem the last few days but for some reason, logging it seems to have solved it, for now!
