Anybody find this particularly valuable? I'm mulling over an L8 Reformed package upgrade with it and the price is great. I have some Edwards which is excellent but nothing like this.
It's a standard if you're doing any type of work related to Edwards. You'll find it helpful. Not to mention the steep discount as part of the L8 Reformed Package. It's a no brainier!
I already had the hardback 26 volume set. (Not brand new but I spent about a year searching for them volume by volume. They retail for $125 each, but my aim was $40 or less.) I've only read about 4-5 that would count as cover to cover. Many of them you will only read a sermon here or there, or a miscellany here or there. I already had the 2 vol from Banner of Truth. The Yale volumes are going to include large (100 pages or so) introductions at the beginning of many of the volumes.
That being said, I still bought the Logos set a while back. There was a sale that included Anchor and Yale stuff maybe a year or two ago. They whole JE set was 399. I got it on a payment plan because I thought that was a good price. I've since added several other JE volumes.
How do I use the 2 together? If I am reading, I like to have the actual hardbacks. I underline, write in them, etc. I wrote something on Brainerd, so I used WJE7 and made notes along the way. You can use WJE24 as a Bible commentary. You often see lots of one sentence JE quotes. It is nice to search them and read the whole sermon that they come from. With that much material, and my mind so small and reading speed so slow, I often forget more than lots of people. It is nice being able to say "Now I know I read that in one of these books somewhere on my shelf" and then go to Logos and search it and find it. The WJE hardbacks are by far my most special/expensive set in my library, so I hope they end up being the centerpiece of my kids' living room or something when I die, full of my notes and underlines, etc. But having the Logos one is very helpful also. If I want to see what JohhnyE says about 2 Timothy 4:2, for example, I can look in WJE24. Any other volume will be a needle in a haystack. But with Logos that search takes seconds instead of weeks or months or longer.
If you look at the contents of the base package, check out the other JE books. The three brown covers are a set on Matthew's parables. That set isnt the super cheapest for how skinny the books are. I think it is also included in one of the base packages. And the one called reading JE is like a $75 book by itself. Also, the JE encyclopedia would be good to add to whatever you buy. It gives you a paragraph or page summary of what JE said about various topics, but it also has a list of books after each entry that will take you deeper if the summary isn't enough.
If you have any questions about the other JE books and I have them I will be glad to help. And forgive the plug, if you like JE history, take a look at the pics from my JE tour in 2017: preachertony.com/jetrip
Search "Jonathan Edwards" on the Logos store, add everything in sight to your cart, click 'purchase' and tell your spouse I said it was ok
I grabbed the upgrade before the L8 sale ended, so I got the whole thing for an almost song. I will have to make some sort of search shortcut to maximize my use of it. Should be savor heaven.
