Highlights but not Notes
Hi all, apologies if this has already been answered. I have a question about highlights and notes. I'm going through a commentary and I only want the highlights I've made in that particular commentary to show and not any of the notes (and their icons) that I've made in Bibles that are attached to Bible passages. However, with the new note system, the only way I can figure out how to do this is to make each commentary's notes and highlights in a resource-specific notebook and then only select that notebook to display. Surely there must be a better way as this seems to defeat the point of the new "no notebook" note system. I'm curious if I'm missing something or if this is the only way to do it?

The easiest way to view highlights in a resource is within the resource itself
To get to that menu, show the TOC in that resource, then click the Notes & Highlights button

Thanks Graham, I'll try to upgrade in a few days to check. In the meantime, by using that filter and selecting "highlights" or "notes" would that show me only the highlights or notes as opposed to the entire resource text? What I'm wanting to do is to read through a commentary with only the highlights and notes that are for that specific commentary and not notes brought over from my Bibles that are attached to that passage. I can't seem to figure out how to do that short of creating a resource specific notebook which seems to go against the entire re-design of notes.

It would do that for highlights as below
But for notes created by reference - in any versified resource - they would all be visible in the resource unless you deselected the appropriate notebook.

Thanks Graham, that confirms that my problem still remains. Using that method is a good way to see only the highlights. What I'm struggling with is that the default method for notes and highlights is no longer a "resource specific notebook" but "no notebook" and it's cumbersome to have to select a notebook for each and every highlight/note. So if I"m reading a versified resource like a commentary, but I don't want to see all of my notes from my Bibles, I have to deselect "notes and highlights" which means I can no longer see my resource specific highlights as well (because everything is in "no notebook"). In other words, if I use the "no notebook" default option, it's all or nothing. I can see highlights AND my Bible notes OR I can see no Bible notes but no highlights either. A resource specific notebook is the only way to do this if I'm understanding correctly, yet I feel like nobody else has this same issue or isn't bothered by it? Or maybe I'm just not understanding something?

When you create notes in your commentary are you doing them "by reference" or "by selection"?
If by reference then they will be visible across all versified resources.
If by selection then they will be restricted to the specific resource (although corresponding notes and highlights settings do affect this).
If the latter case, then filtering the resource to just show those notes that are anchored on "text range" should help - though I admit I am seeing some results I don't understand there!

So I've had some time to upgrade and re-read through this thread and I realize that I haven't used very good terminology which I think is leading to some confusion as to what I am trying to accomplish so I'd like to try to re-clarify what I'm trying to do.
1. As I understand it, the perk of the new notes system is that, except for specific situations such as topics, most notes and highlights will be "no notebook." This is the default setting when creating new highlights and notes and the new notes eliminates the need to create a resource-specific notebook.
2. Under the "Notes and Highlights" section of the visual filter menu, this means that virtually all notes will now fall under the "no notebook" category.
3. The Situation: Let's say I'm reading through a commentary on 1 John. As I'm reading through the commentary in it's entirety (as if I'm reading the full book), the only notes and highlights I would like to see that come up as I'm reading, are the ones associated with that specific commentary. For highlights, this is a no-brainer, but for notes, I am seeing notes that I have made in my Bibles under 1 John appear alongside notes I've made in my commentaries.
4. My Question: Since I no longer have resource specific notebooks and everything is lumped together under "no notebook" how can I turn off the notes that are not associated with this commentary? I still want the same note on 1 John 1:1 to appear in all of my Bibles, but I don't want to see it as I'm reading through my commentary. It seems to be an all or nothing. I see all notes from my Bibles in my commentary alongside my notes from my commentary, or I turn off the filter and see no notes as well as no highlights. It's all or nothing. Am I understanding this correctly or am I missing something? I have upgraded the features and now I see the features mentioned earlier in this thread, but those show me ONLY the highlights or notes. I want to see the full commentary text with highlights as if I had the real paper book in front of me. This is the same issue with my Bible. If I want to read my Bible and only have the notes OR highlights displayed as I'm reading along, I can't do it. It is all or nothing unless I have resource-specific notebooks, but this seems to go against one of the biggest selling points of the "no notebook" system. Am I missing something?

I think you are understanding this correctly and the way the new Notes system works (assuming you no longer use resource-specific notebooks) does not support what you are trying to do.
If anyone can think of a way of doing it, hopefully they will comment.
