I have never wanted to download "temporary" licensed material, especially the preview FC resources. Now that we have cloud resources, can we finally have the option to abstain from downloading these?
We can, of course, turn off "automatically download new resources," but I agree it would be nice to be able to make this distinction.
We can, of course, turn off "automatically download new resources,"
But that would keep resources I actually want in the cloud.
I agree with JT—I don't want temporary resources clogging my library.
+1 [Y] for default location of "temporary" preview resources being in the cloud.
Keep Smiling [:)]

Hmmm. So you download Logos 8 Basic and don't want the temporary books? You also don't want the 100 or so temporary books in Faithlife Connect? But you likely want to use the temporary datasets!
I can agree about the monthly preview FC books, including those from Verbum Now. But is it worth an extra Setting? Just change the "Download New" setting at the beginning of the month and don't purchase any books for a few days!!
So you download Logos 8 Basic and don't want the temporary books?
True.
You also don't want the 100 or so temporary books in Faithlife Connect?
But you likely want to use the temporary datasets!
Also true. I would not see the datasets in the same category. Furthermore, if there were any of the books above I did want downloaded, I could choose to download it at will.
But is it worth an extra Setting?
Yep.
Just change the "Download New" setting at the beginning of the month and don't purchase any books for a few days!!
Forcing users to contort themselves is not good design.
I agree with Dave.
well then dont flip the switch! I dont want books I dont want and didn't buy to download and waste my bandwidth.
is it worth an extra Setting?
I think I'm with Dave here. An extra setting is a lot of effort for a negligible issue. It will confuse users - and to really work well would need to differentiate between "permanently given temporary" and "temporarily given temporary" licenses, which isn't possible at the moment. The number of monthly preview resources is very limited - and it is most probable that they don't take up a large portion of scarce HD space.
Users with very strong space constraints should be encouraged to set Download New to No.
Others who just don't like to see any or some of the preview resources at all would be better advised to filter the library for license:temp, mark those they don't want to have and either hide them or switch the "downloaded" to "remove from device". That's very easy and would need to happen once a month only.
It will confuse users
No more than they already have! Once you have let the cat out of the bag with cloud resources, you might as well do this. Users who are dependent upon the L8 Basic resources aren't the target audience here.
If I think about the customer support implications for including this option for more than a few seconds, I'll be in danger of a headache.
Perhaps simply having a setting/option in out FC membership to turn the download of temporary FC resources on or off would ease the pain of the monthly/ongoing download of temp resources. I know it wouldn't prevent the download of temp resources for things like Logos 8 Basic, but it might be a big step in the right direction and it wouldn't add any complexity to Logos settings.
Just change the "Download New" setting at the beginning of the month and don't purchase any books for a few days!! Forcing users to contort themselves is not good design.
You can easily remove the main bulk of temporary resources, and then manually remove monthly temporary resources. That really takes advantage of the Cloud feature.
Again: Forcing users to contort themselves is not good design. Not having to remove any temporary resources would really be taking advantage of the cloud feature because THEY WOULD BE IN THE CLOUD! [:P]
I‘m really struggling to figure out why y’all are upset about this. If users don’t want this feature, they don’t have to turn it on. I’m not suggesting that it be the default behavior. If a user CHOOSES to turn it on, it would prevent these unwanted resources from automatically downloading with the desired ones.
Also: my desire isn’t novel. We regularly have users request the ability to reject the temporary resources. We also regularly have users request help with their metered internet.
