So I decide to do a basic search of "Everything", looking for the word excommunicate or excommunication  as below:

excommunicat*

I KNOW the word ALSO appears in (at least) the Code of Canon Law, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary (and probably a bunch of other dictionaries and encyclopedias - I have 6300 books). But my search results show only three resources found: the Dictionary of Latin Forms, Oxford Concise Dictionary and the Summa Theologica, as well as my PB copy of Foxe's Book of Martyrs.

That doesn't seem right - what am I missing here? Any thoughts? My library is indexed.

The reason for the search is I'm trying to find out what the difference is, if any, between excommunication and what Paul advises the believers to do with the lazy believers in 2 Thess. 3:6. One commentator pointed out this is not excommunication. Hmmm, I thought, so what's IS excommunication then, exactly? This seems more like "shunning" I guess would be the term I would use?

Thanks!

I can't be of a whole lot of help, but I ran the same search and only got three resources, the same as yours.

Is "Everything" search supposed to work that way? I never use it, instead searching "All Resources" as much more efficient. That way, I got hits in 1,162 resources.

Interesting, thanks Sean! Yes, I just did a search on All Resources as well and found a (much better!) set of 11,841 results in 1296 resources.

So can someone explain why "Everything" doesn't get the same thing? Or to paraphrase Bill Clinton, maybe doesn't "everything" mean "everything"? [:D]

So can someone explain why "Everything" doesn't get the same thing?

Library (Downloaded) only shows the first 10 results (Ranked). Not the best presentation if you are wanting to know how many resources; but you can click the link at the bottom to search All Resources.

Everything searches just about everything, but doesn't necessarily present all the results!

    Thanks Dave!

Okay, so now part 2 of my research - I have a collection called Dictionaries and Encyclopedias in which I did a search of  ' excommunicat* '

It produced about 2900 results in 125 resources. But of course, a lot of those were biographical entries where that person was excommunicated (boy, we used to do that at the drop of a pin, didn't we?! [:D])

QUESTION: is there a way for me to do a search in such a way that it only checks if there are word entries titled "excommunication"  - i.e. like the word Excommunication would appear and be defined in a dictionary.

i.e. I want to exclude all the mentions of excommunication in biographical entries.

    See what I mean?

    Is that even possible?

Thanks again for helping me learn how to use Logos better!

For this, it's easier to use the Factbook than to search.

Well doesn't THAT just make perfect sense, Mark?! Incredible how we humans have a gift for complicating the obvious.

    Thanks! [:D]
