ATTN Kyle: Commentaries lacking Bible milestones
Hi Kyle,
I recently discovered three commentaries in my library that are missing both Bible milestones and page numbers. The page numbers are less of an issue, but the Bible Milestones stop the resources showing up in Passage Guides, etc. All three volumes are Logos editions, not eBooks.
- Joel, the Day of the Lord: A Chronology of Israel’s Prophetic History
- Malachi: Messenger of Rebuke and Renewal
- Zechariah: Israel’s Messenger of the Messiah’s Triumph
Also, what's your position with volumes like the Sheffield/T&T Clark Bible Guides? They're similar to commentaries, in that after some introductory material, the text of the Bible book is dealt with in order. But rather than dealing verse-by-verse or pericope-by-pericope, these books deal with the text a few chapters at a time. Have these been accidentally excluded as commentaries, or do they not meet your criteria?

Sorry, I missed this the first time.
Those are some old books! I've put into motion getting Bible milestones to the three titles in question. Getting page milestones will be trickier as we're running into some materials issues with them.
As for the Sheffield/T&T Clark Bible Guides: this question comes up from time to time. We were purposeful on we handled them. The biggest question for us is how we would even discern where to put the milestones. Generally speaking to qualify as a Bible Commentary for a book on an individual book of the Bible it needs to have systematic coverage (i.e. starts at chapter 1 and moves to the end of the book) and/or obvious milestone indicators.
The problem with these guides is that they jump around and often don't have any obvious milestone indicators. I picked three at random this morning: Exodus, Psalms, and Mark. For Exodus and Mark I have no idea where and what we'd use for milestones. For Psalms there is a bit more to work with as chapter sub-headings often explicitly mention a specific Psalm but they jump all over the place and often a single sub-chapter will address 4 or 5 different Psalms over the matter as many chapters. It's structure really doesn't fit how we typically understand a Bible Commentary.

Thanks, Kyle. That's great. (And I understand your position on the Bible Guides. Although some would work as commentaries, it's probably better to be consistent.)
