Adding Notes via Text Selection Menu
I really like the new Text Selection Menu! Great useful tool, but the one thing I want to do most is not supported. The Add Note tool when selecting Bible text I think should add a Reference note instead of a note tied to the translation as it currently does. I want my notes to show up regardless of what Bible translation I'm using, but I have to use the right click menu to do this. That means multiple steps...
- Select text
- Right click or click the three dot menu button in the new Text Selection Menu
- Make sure the Reference is selected in the right hand column of the right-click menu
- Go down to add note.
By the way I also wish the Note window's New Note button would also add a reference note instead of a note tied to the translation. This seems more intuitive, but that may just be me.

Kevin, to get a reference anchored note do not select text. Simply click into a verse if needed to change the active reference in the reference box, then hit the new note button. The automatically added anchor will now be a reference anchor rather than a text selection anchor.

What about adding a note to a range of verses. Don't this works for that. But thanks for the tip on a single verse.

Right, I did think about that exception, but I imagine this is a relatively narrow use case. Nevertheless, you do have another option (one that avoids the context menu, which is a huge plus IMO). If you set the ref range in your Bible before clicking the New Note button, the anchor will be the range of verses, so if I'm at John 3:10, for example, and wish to make a note on John 3:15-17, I would do the following:
- Cmd+G (moves focus to the ref box)
- "15-17 + Enter" (John 3 automatically gets carried over since I didn't specify a chapter or book)
- click New Note button (I consider it a bug that "n" doesn't create a new ref range note (it does work on text selection)).

To me, a “text selection” note should be a text selection anchor note. If this created a reference range note instead, how would you foresee creating a text selection note? The inconsistent UX aside, I wouldn’t mind if a reference anchor was created if the text selection spanned, for example, 75% or more of two or more verses.
Since we have “corresponding notes and highlights” I have very little need for reference range notes, and much prefer text selection notes since I can anchor to the exact phrase in consideration. To me, the current behavior is definitely the most intuitive, notwithstanding that a reference anchored note on a range of verses is slightly more work.

I totally agree. The way they have it is the most intuitive. That said, I would like there to be some sort of shortcut or another option that could switch it temporarily to creating a referenced note. For example something like, "selecting text" + holding "shift" switches it to a reference note then pressing "add note".

I don't know, I rarely actually make a note on a text selection and almost always on a reference or range of references. I would like to see this implemented as well.
