Was the original E4 Bible software, in Libronix format, free?

I was just wondering if there were any license restrictions on sharing it.

Thanks

As I recall, E4 had perhaps the most strict policies of any publisher that has produced titles for the Libronix format.  They used to have verses about stealing pop-up in some editions...

Here is an example of a Title Page excerpt from one of their books:

The publication is COPYRIGHTED in its entirety, editing, index, and content by: THE EPHESIANS FOUR GROUP, and is protected under copyright laws. This volume is for the use of one person only per CD

Users are allowed to place this volume only on one personal computer (you may place it on two computers if you are the main user of both of the computers). No portion of this electronic text can be placed on the internet. © 1998 The Ephesians Four Group

This edition is not abridged, but has been carefully edited and indexed by the Ephesians Four Group.

E4 gave away stuff from time to time, but they never released anything as public domain.

    There's a difference.

This answers my question, Thanks. I knew that from time to time they would offer their first CD for shipping only, but I did not realize that they were so restrictive.

Perhaps some day Logos will work things out with Kirkbride and offer the TCR... [:D]

Are you saying or suggesting that the E4 resources are not reliable...they have been edited?  This is potentially troubling and may cause me to want to remove those resources from my library.

Read his message carefully. He was quoting E4. He was not commenting on the quality of their work. Those are E4's words.

You would have to ask E4 what they mean by "edited".

Mark, in this case editing doesn't refer to altering the text, but font-sizes, page lay-out, title-page design, etc. It's also possible that they fixed some typo's, and possibly Americanized the spelling of some words.

The E4 works are reliable in that they accurately preserve the original text.

Does anyone have any e4 freebiblesoftware?  How does it work?  Do I need to lisence it over the internet or does it just install to my computer?  Please, Please respond.  I really want to invest in some but their customer service is non existent.

How does your e4 disc work?  I want to purchase some, in particular
Lloyd Jones, J.C. Ryle, Macarthur & Maclaren.  My question is do I
need to be on the internet to install my books like Logos?

Be careful, what is currently available in E4 ( Lloyd Jones, J.C.
Ryle, Macarthur & Maclaren) is only compatible with Quickverse and
STEP. It cannot be used in Logos.

E4 no longer has the rights to sell Logos
    books.

I also have a large library of software that I've gathered from them over the years (http://freebiblesoftware.net/). But I'm worried. A family run non-profit? What is their oversight? Who's the board? Are they submitted to a local congregation?

    Concerns:

    1. They NEVER respond to email.

    2. I received a defective disk from them, and several months after complaining I received a poorly worded and gramatically deficient email saying they would replace it. The replacement never came. The email appeared to come from an overseas writer and the email address wasn't E4.

    3. Their relationship (E4) with the Quick Verse (QV) people is questionable and their web site doesn't remark about that relationship and its legality. When I buy QV software and try to incorporate the E4 software, it won't work and the QV folks say they have no relationship with E4.

In summary, I'm quite concerned about the legality and morality of this "ministry." Is it just another "loose cannon" in the Evangelical world? Until they become more transparent, I'm going to keep writing about them and looking for answers. If they are believers, then why no response to email inquiries in regard to software, operations, etc?

    Blessings.

I would imagine there exists a step to pdf/someotherfiletype that can then be made into a logos book.

I will see what I can find, I too had/have some of their products. Seems like there was a thread on here about how they were one of the publishers whose final product (at least in the old days) was lacking quality... Lots of typos and that sort of thing.

I'm curious if I'm talking to the right group. I'm using E4 to refer to a Quick Verse group and they call themselves E4. Is that the same thing to which this forum is referring?

It is, but you're writing in a really old thread here.  E4 used to publish via Logos Bible Software a long time ago, but have since stopped.  There may be some around who might know more about the group, but since it's not directly related to anything current in Logos, you might have a hard time finding any answers to your questions.

As I recall, Logos had a philosophy of a shared software in its first marketing tactic, whereby, it had attracted many independent content developers, including E4. When Logos decided to change its policy of restricting its shared software, E4 had changed its software to a Quick Verse software, including QV version 11.

I support E4's ministry by purchasing its products, and enjoy its free promotions. There are many missionaries with a severely limited budget, but E4 provides any of them a free bible software with massive contents.

I am not aware of Logos' mission commitment, but it would not hurt to support "a family run non-profit" by purchasing their contents, which I find equal to Logos' products for which I paid hefty dollars relative to E4's.

Enjoy your "large volume," as I would continue to enjoy them. If only I can incorporate all my E4 collections under Logos program, as I did before, I would not have to use "shift alt" and "alt c" in my study.

I have their software as well. However, looking at the site, it does not look like it has been updated since 2013. I would wonder if they are still viable.

QV is now part of LifeWay, B&H, and WORDsearch.

The E4 logos books are for logos 2 and 3. Logos 3 had some problems with Windows 7 and more with Windows 10. I think these relate to updates to internet explorer. As stated above QV has been taken over Lifeway. Wordsearch has now transferred to the Cross format. E4 has more recently released some books on Kindle. The latest being March 2018. The E4 website http://www.freebiblesoftware.com is not currently accessible.

Brother, I sympathize with your frustration. I always found their "no support" approach very off-putting. Now it is impossible to find out anything about them at all.

E4 is a very hidden enterprise. I can only assume that they are out of business now, but I have to also assume that all was above board, since they were Christians. Their approach was for self-protection which I understand, but I have had to learn that God protection is better.

    Good day Rich,

I trust you are well? Please can you help me. I have 2 questions:

    1) I have a CD called "The Complete Works of Alexander Maclaren" as free bible software and on the cover is the E4 group and I am trying to install into Quick Verse as that is the platform I use to downlead and open all my books. Are they still going? Also the CD seems to not be able to install and does not copy over the books. Do you know how I can get in contact with E4 and/or resolve a technical querry?

    2) I am also in possession of 3 CD under Libronix, Greek tools and Bible Study volume 1 and 2...how does once install/ convert from Libronix to Quick Verse?

Please can you email me at ianadornan@gmail.com

    Thank you

    Keep well

I've used that software for years, but I was always unsure of their right to use the software since another company was also selling the same software. Questions of both companies never were responded to adequately. I don't agree with you that just because they SAY they are Christians that all must be ok. Also, just because they say they are Christians doesn't make it so. The very fact that they have "disappeared" with leaving their customers with alternatives in using their software makes me doubt their character whatever labels we use for them. A Biblical believer is identified by his/her fruit (actions), not by their self-adhered labels. Sigh...

I just noticed that their address is on their Facebook page. I followed it on Google maps and found a photo of the modest home with modest cars in the driveway. It's in Corona, CA.

A search of the owners of that property on the E4 Facebook page shows no family as described by E4 materials: Here's the info I've uncovered. The house has been sold only once and that was in 1964. Maybe the family is living in the home of their parents or grandparents. Who knows? Sigh...

STEP was initially developed as a joint project to provide a common platform for several publishers. There are details on Wikipedia. E4 stopped distributing on CD or DVD probably about 6 years then. Since then they have published on Amazon using their collection of texts. There have been no new books for about 3 years. There is a continuing income stream here. The Logos 3 books were included in the update to logos 4 so if they were registered when logos was updated they are still available from Logos. Logos 3 was not updated to Windows 7 so now only works as a basic reader as searches are unreliable. I have had problems loading an E4 disc into Quickverse. In this case the version on the disc may work better. WORDsearch no longer use STEP so there is no commercial development of STEP keeping it compatible with Windows.
