Is there a way to only copy the citation information when copyingpasting?

Let's say I want to copy only the citation of a particular part of a book. I highlight the passage I want the information from, but when I copy and paste into a word document, it pastes the quote with the citation as a footnote.

What if I only want the information that's in the footnote? How do I only copy this?

You can create a Bibliography document (in Docs/Document menu). Then select text in a resource and use the Add menu to get the citation. Right click the citation to Copy it.

Thanks Dave. This only gives the bibliography data. Can it include a page number?

What I used to do: Have another blank word doc open, drag & highlight the part in Logos resource and copy it, paste it into the blank doc, then copy the citation part.

What I now do: drag & highlight the part in Logos resource and copy it, paste it to anywhere in the doc I'm writing on, copy the citation part, then press ctrl-z.

You have to paste the selection into your word processor to get the full citation. Page number depends on the resource and (possibly) the citation style you chose in Program Settings e.g. a bible is unlikely to include page number with the passage(s).

    EDIT: see response below

    ...a "footnote" citation.

That depends on the word processor, as it could be inline (as with a Text Editor).

Forget pasting to a word processor. The Bibliography document will have the full/article citation.

Bibliography citation formats are different from footnote citation formats. The page number(s) are usually not included in the former.

The citation styles for footnotes (N) vs. bibliography entries (B) from Turabian, for example (other citation styles are slightly different, but most of the common ones also omit page number):

N:      1. Jared Diamond, Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies (New York: W. W. Norton and Company, 1997), 47.

B: Diamond, Jared. Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies. New York: W. W. Norton and Company, 1997.

Here's another style for comparison. If I choose Chicago Manual of Style citation format, here's what Logos puts in the Bibliography document if I follow your instructions above, from a selection of text in a regular book with page numbers (not a Bible):

St Athanasius the Great of Alexandria. On the Incarnation: Translation. Edited and translated by John Behr. Vol. 44a. Popular Patristics Series. Yonkers, NY: St Vladimir's Seminary Press, 2011.

Here, on the other hand, is the footnote created in Word if I copy/paste that same block of text into Word:

This is why one might be better served using the method Jay described above (which is how I do it too), when you want a footnote citation, as opposed to just a bibliography entry.

Yes, there are a few citation styles that preserve the page number for a bibliography entry:

    • APA Style (6th ed.)
    • Christian Writer's Manual of Style
    • Modern Humanities Research Association
    • Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum
    • Pontifical Biblical Institute

Chances are the reason the OP wanted to copy this info was for pasting into a word processor anyway, so that extra step of copying the footnote from there and then doing Ctrl+Z (Undo) would be minimal. Making sure your citation style is one of the above, Creating a Bibliography document, Adding to it, then right-clicking Copy seems like more work. Maybe that's just me.

My experience was with the APA Style as above. It preserves/presents Volume numbers better than the others.

As you say, though, the Bibliography format doesn't preserve page numbers for other styles.

My point wasn't that the citation is created as a footnote (although in some apps it is), but that it is a footnote citation (i.e. with page numbers) rather than a bibiographic citation for the bibliography.

This is from a Turabian (Chicago) point of view. I don't know about other style guides.

From this source I see that "The style of Chicago/Turabian we use requires footnotes rather than in-text or parenthetical citations."

It was confusing, but I now understand what you meant.
