Logos 8.6.0.0052 home screen does not completely display and update downloads fail

Just recently (today) I attempted to open Logos 8 and the home screen would not completely load. I'm also unable to download updates. I recall a process to delete the incomplete downloaded updates, which I think is the cause of the issues. Anyone recall the path to the downloaded update file? Many thanks in advance.

Don't know why. However, this is an internet feature. Perhaps your internet was intermittent or the site was down?

Check under "preferences" for the "internet" options. Make sure the appropriate items are turned on. If that doesn't appear to work, let us know which each of those settings is currently.

My program setting are set to use the internet and auto start downloads. What's strange is I have never had an issue before. I am behind a firewall and have been for 15 years with know issues. Maybe we changed a port on the firewall that's blocking the download now, but I will check once i'm home. If it updates at home then it could the firewall. Thank you so much for your response. I know previously the download was becoming corrupt and I deleted it, then the download completed without corrupting. I can not remember the path to the downloaded file.

What OS are you on? Are you talking about the software or resources?
It would help to have some logs.

What about "download new resources"?

My settings are the same as yours listed in the image. I'm beginning to think it's the firewall at work. While at home all my workstation update without issue. I will take this laptop home tonight and let you know in the morning. Once again I really appreciate the willingness to help, it reassures me of the kindness in the world. God Bless!

Francis, have you had any luck? I've been trying to get it to stay open for the last hour and a half, with no success. (as a side note: why is the install directory hidden?!?). I've even shut my firewall completely off, with no luck. This is extremely frustrating, and now I'm out of what little time I had available to use it today.
My specs are the same as yours, and I'm hoping you've found a solution. Cheers, and thanks for looking.

John, I think that Logos may not be up to date on your computer.
Please close Logos , and then use these instructions to make sure that Logos is fully up to date. These instructions are usually used to install Logos, but work just fine for getting it up to date as well.

Thanks for the reply, Joe; I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, Logos is reporting that the software completely up-to-date.

John, and also Francis,
If you have not already done so, I recommend updating to the current version of Windows 10, which is 1903.
Please use this article:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Use the option for “Update now”.
Let us know if you need further help after getting up to date.

I've found that issue is with logos not correctly updating itself. At work I think there was a network issue on this one laptop. I ended up taking it home and it completed the update. Now it appears to find, except the home screen still takes about 10 minutes to finally load. I am on windows 10 1809 and can not update further due to enterprise restrictions. I do apologize for such late responses, but I haven't had time due to work. I going to uninstall the program and then see what happens once I reinstall it. I will let you know in about 2 hours.

Francis, I wish I'd seen this sooner; I would have advised against it. I am now on Windows build 18362 and I tried a complete reinstall of Logos and find myself in an endless loop. When I try to launch Logos, it will download about 7% of my resources, then close without an error message. I can't even get to the actual program any more.
Joe, thanks for the link! Unfortunately, downloading that update actually gives me an error (and full stop) when I launch it. If I update through the actual Windows update system, it says that I am up to date on my version. EDIT: It appears I actually am on the latest version, according to this page: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/

John,
I am sorry to hear that you are still having difficulty with this.
It is extremely unlikely that updating Windows would introduce problems for Logos. I have personally helped many Logos users resolve Logos problems by simply getting up to date with Windows.
But of course we do want to help get access to your library again. I am sending you an email with further instructions.

Thank you Joe; I really appreciate your help. I've received the email and will call tech support tomorrow. Cheers!
Francis, I hope your problems are resolved.

Solved: My issue was with the workplace firewall blocking downloads using the BIT transfer method. I brought the laptop home and completely reinstalled Logos 8. All updates and download completed with 30 minutes. I'm not sure if that will help anyone else due to it's specific to me and my networking environment, but thought I would share and also thank each and everyone of you for your support. May God bless you all, because you all are a blessing!

The dependency on BITS for downloading resources and program updates was removed in Logos 6, so it has to be something else in your networking environment.

The manual installer program still depends on BITS for downloading, but once the application itself is installed, it no longer relies on BITS for ongoing updates.

Solved!
I ended up very busy working on a series, and just haven't had the time available to a support call. Surprisingly though, it turned out that my recent Windows update actually was the problem! It changed the temp directories so that Logos didn't recognize them any more. (I also had the same problem with the Calibre e-reader program.) For the sake of those who might experience a similar problem in the future, I'll leave the following link to the solution below. It took me less than two minutes to solve a problem that had persisted for two months.

Cheers, and thanks again for trying to help, Joe. Even though we weren't able to solve the issue, I really appreciate your time and thoughtfulness. It's wonderful to have Logos back!

I'm not convinced about Windows Update "changing" the temp directories, unless the Environment variables TEMP/TMP were mangled; which doesn't appear to be the case based on the suggested video "fix". It is more likely that the temp folder was "full", as it can create problems for any app. But the fix is to delete files and folders in %Temp% (which provides the folder location when typed into File Explorer).
The video fix changes location for the User variables TEMP/TMP to a non-User location. I would change it back to the default C\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp.

Thanks Dave. My temp directories are cleared on a regular maintenance schedule. But right now, I'm of the mindset of "if it ain't broke (anymore), don't "fix" it." [8-|]
If it were only Logos, I'd be thinking along the same lines, but both Calibre and Logos stopped working at the same time just after a Windows update, and both failed at the same place in their startup. Whatever strange combo disrupted the natural order of things, it's all fine now.
(EDIT: After thinking about it, your directory suggestion makes sense, and there was no harm in trying. So I went back and made the changes and both programs failed at the exact same place again.)

Did you try to delete content of the user TEMP location? How big? How many folders/files?
