Good preaching resources?
Hello I am new to Logos. I want to use it for personal study of the bible and for sermon preparation. I have https://www.logos.com/product/165447/logos-8-bronze and I like "Holman New Testament Commentary".

I'm not a Baptist, but the Logos 8 Baptist Gold Collection in my opinion is probably 'the best bang for the buck' when it comes to preaching resources. It has great sermon archives, which are helpful for illustrations and application. It also has many other sermon tools and helps. In my 9 years of using Logos, it probably is the one purchase I have made, that I am most happy with.

How far are you along in skillfully using Logos? Learning how to harness the capabilities of Logos Software is in my mind the best investment.
There are many guides, tools and workflows available that can assist in the process of sermon development. Particularly useful for me are The Passage Guide and Sermon Starter Guide, The Word Study Tool is great for language work, especially when I link it to the Bible I will be preaching from.
The Bible Browser is helpful for exploring once themes, or persons, places and things that I am preaching on have been identified.
The Cited By Tool is great for searching books and devotionals and the like for application and illustration thoughts from preaching passage. But that can also be accomplished by modifying The Passage Guide to suit your own preferences and needs.
Once you have a set up that works for you save it as a template.

I hope this helps... at the end of the day I find that there is no substitute for allowing time for the biblical passage to ruminate in my mind and spending time before God and letting the Holy Spirit impress on my heart what He wants to say to His people. No amount of technology can accomplish that and perhaps even can become a hindrance.

Hello! Some good advice has already been given, but I would echo MMW. I would suggest it would be best to start getting used to what you already have first! Give it a month of solid use, maybe daily or at least 5 out of the 7 days of each week and then reward yourself with a new resource as a motivation.
This way you don't get into the loop of buying resources you...
- don't need,
- won't use,
- or will frustrate you because you have spent money on a program you haven't taken the time to learn.
You've already spent good money on Logos, let's use what you've got! Too many people have learned to hate Logos because they have not sunk in the time first to learn the software before dropping major dollars into the program. (Their training videos are here: https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/categories/360000675231). There are legitimate reasons to not like Logos, but failing to learn it should not be one of them 😆.
That said, you already have some good resources to start you off. Pick one a read through it:
- DIY Bible Study Series
- Not Your Average Bible Study
- LifeGuide Series
- "How To Read" (Job, Psalms, Genesis, Proverbs)
These would be a good start in learning to preach and study the bible, as they probably will all point you in a good direction of learning to analyze and think about scripture.
Set aside 15-20 minutes a day and spend that going through a workflow (Like your Basic Bible Study Workflow) to learn a study technique as well as the program. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-Bbe2Ju1Qk )

Without knowing your theological bent or cultural setting it is hard to make recommendations that will connect the timeless Word with your time-bound listeners. I would suggest getting the "Expository Sermon Preparation" Workflow in Logos8 and allow the step-by-step process to guide your preparation. As various steps you can open the >>MORE tab and you will be exposed to datasets in Logos and extra resources that may be helpful at that particular step in the process.

Hello, thank you for tips and advices. I am not so new to Logos (but I still feel like beginner). I have it for several years, but I use it more in last few months. I spend lot of time reading, watching videos and teaching about Logos, and I am still learning.
I studied proverbs, but it takes me 60-90 minutes every day, just for 3 verses.
My study workflow is:
- Start with prayer
- Read text several times
- Highlight some important staff in text
- Write some notes
- Read some good commentaries (I like NICOT and NIVAC most - but I have just few of them)
My goal is to improve my study and preaching skills (I preach once every two months). Now i just read proverbs and psalms every day, some comments + prayer. But I want to create some study/preaching prepare workflow. I always have problem with structure of sermon, that is reason why I ask for some good resources- to help me create good biblical structure and I also want to learn how to have good applications and illustrations.
I hope it make sense (sorry for some english errors, I am from Czech Republic).

Your workflow has 5 steps. My Textual Sermon workflow has 29 steps. These other steps will help you clarify the structure and the process. Namely, I consider structure in steps 1.8, 2.1, 2.2, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 - 4.5 is where I work on applications, illustrations & transitions.
Especially for the beginner it is helpful to break it down into very specific, individual steps so that the final product has structure and cohesion.

If structure is your challenge, the "I-beam Sermon-Teaching" by Donald McNeeley may be helpful as it separates "What does this mean?" BEFORE "how will I preach this?"
