Help: Any one know of a PDF to word program that I can use for my personal books?

Hi, need some (a lot of) help.
Just bough the Adobe Document Cloud to convert PDF.
Not pleased with the result, changes everything into hundreds of picture files with in the word document.
Tried to use it to make a personal book, got the first few pages formatted and then many errors (over 700). Only thing it gave me was a title page and index.
The 700 page book ended up only giving me the first 5 pages.
Any one got a REAL program that could change the books (pdfs) from Gary Norths Free Book site?

PDF's may be created from various sources. Many PDF's are essentially photographs and no OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has been performed. To get the results you want, OCR must be performed. You may or may not be able to get good results from the PDF... it is very possible that the quality of the "photograph" isn't good enough to get good results.

While I have not really used it much, I bought Abbyy FineReader todomy conversions.
Mostly on the recommendations of the man who runs a (the most popular) web site for (Public Domain) resources for a very popular free bible study software. They have thousands of resources and his main conversion software from scans (or PDF's) is Abbyy FineReader.
What little I have played with is shows it does a good job. It really depends on the quality of the PDF. If it is an OCR'ed resource or just a Graphic image resource.

JT replied while I was trying to compose my response. The quality of the PDF he mentioned was what I was trying to elude to.

I use Word 2016 and that will import pdfs itself, and does a pretty good job of converting them. Try opening the PDF with Word.

Kevin, I have access to Word 2019, but the problem seems to be that the books were scanned and not just made into a PDF from a word file, etc.

If they are a photo posing as a PDF, nothing with convert them until, as Bama said, you use an OCR package on them.
You can always get a Scanmarker Air or similar. I use one for certain items. It isn't super fast, but it's faster than typing. And you'll need to print them...the scanner doesn't work well on a screen.

When I convert a paper book to digital, I use ABBY Finereader 14 and it does probably the best job any program can do.
Of course it all depends on the quality of your scans too. I chop off the spines and feed it through my ScanSnap at 600 DPI, so my scans are really really good.
Then you can export to Word or RTF or just embed the text inside the PDF.
I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5 on my Mac for other stuff. I've tried the latest versions of Adobe's software and just haven't been satisfied with it all.
Whats the PDF you want to scan? I can run it through ABBYY and see how it does.

Here is a direct link to the file https://www.garynorth.com/freebooks/docs/pdf/days_of_vengeance.pdf
If you have any success, it would save me may hours of typing and cutting and pasting. Thanks, Tom

Here's what I got using Adobe Acrobat 8. I used its OCR feature and then exported it as a Word document. I would imagine that the newest Acrobat would be able to do this as well and even better. Also Acrobat 8 can only save as a doc file because docx didn't exist back then.
I think it attached after I zipped it although this website doesn't seem to like large file attachments.

He used Adobe Acrobat 8... NOT the free "Acrobat Reader."

They don't sell it any more as they moved on to version 9, 10, 11 and DC. If you bought the DC version it should be able to do the same thing.
On my ancient version the OCR option is under the Document menu and then Export is under the File menu.

I've used http://www.pdf2docx.com to convert my PDF files to DOCX files that can be used to create a personal book in Logos 8 with good success.

I've never used one myself but a friend of mine has a speed scanner. He buys a cheap copy of a book on ebay, remove the spine, feeds in into the tray, and moments later, the book is digitalised.
