Bug: Cannot delete a Palette with no highlights

I had manually deleted the highlights belonging to a test Palette. When I tried to delete the Palette, the message "8 styles are still in use" came up. A {Highlight Palette/*} search verified that there were no highlights. When I added a highlight, the message stated "9 styles are still in use" and the search results showed only that highlight.

When I checked Trash in the Notes tool, I can see all the highlights I made (and deleted) with this palette, but:

  • it doesn't mean that the styles are "Still in use"
  • I don't agree with the count of 8 based on the icons displayed in Trash, even though it reduces as I permanently delete highlights e.g. it says 6 when I see 4, 5 when I see 1, and 5 when I see zero.

So I began to delete styles in the Palette, which is tedious as it is a copy of the Inductive/Precept palette. Finally, there are 5 styles that cannot be deleted because each has a number of "annotations". So I clicked Delete Style for each of the five, and then deleted the Palette.

All the warning messages were erroneous as I didn't lose any existing highlights (I was observing the Notes tool).

The issue now is how should we delete a Palette (assuming the message counts are correct)?

  1. Delete each style, and either
    1. Restyle existing highlights, or
    2. Delete Style
      1. Will existing highlights be deleted? Will they be put into Trash or permanently deleted?
      2. What happens to deleted highlights in Trash?
  2. Delete the Palette

To reproduce:

  • Create a new Palette
    • mine was a copy of the Inductive/Precept palette as I was trying to debug this problem.
  • Set its default to a new Notebook
  • Highlight in one visible area of a bible using about 5 styles i.e. at least 5 highlights
  • Add about 2 highlights that fully or partially cover an existing highlight, and then remove them in the Notes tool.
  • Delete ALL the remaining highlights using the Context menu (l selected an area that covered all of them).
  • Try to delete the Palette
