Teach the Text Important Question

Have all the volumes of the Teach The Text Series been published?

I know the series got cancelled, but I just wanted to know if all the volumes that are supposed to be out are out or are we waiting for more?

I’m able to get all 21 current volumes for $159.99. I think it’s a great deal! (Sorry can’t post a link).

I guess they weren’t selling as originally planned. Interesting approach to writing commentaries. It’s unfortunate that they couldn’t finish the series. Oh well, I’ll test drive it and see how it is. It’s definitely cheaper now that it will ever be in Logos. At $159.99 for all 21 volumes or $9.99 each, it’s a bargain!

Yeah. That was me. I was disappointed when I discovered this. I've grown to love the TTT series, and was saddened when I discovered, by accident, that some were in B&W with no images. The color versions are excellent, with a ton of tagged images that support the text. I use a lot of images in my Sunday morning messages, and the TTT series was an excellent resources for relevant images.

That is a good deal! I really like this series, and concur that it's very unfortunate! Wish they had completed all the resources in full color. I especially loved the application sections at the end of each commentary section - excellent devotional material.

Yeah. That was me. I was disappointed when I discovered this. I've grown to love the TTT series, and was saddened when I discovered, by accident, that some were in B&W with no images. I use a lot of images in my Sunday morning messages, and the TTT series was an excellent resources for relevant images.

Slightly off topic, I've recently switched to using less images and more Bible verses on the screen when I preach. I find fewer people are looking at the Bible these days, so rather than 'illustrate' my talk with pictures, I find I'm trying to direct them to the Bible verses I'm focusing on in particular. It doesn't mean I no longer use any pictures - just far fewer.

Accordance has a great “sermon builder” called “Paper” and you can add pictures attached as thumb nail images and when you click on them they zoom out into a good size slide that you can show to people and make it bigger if you want. I preach and teach from my screen so this feature is extremely super useful. Unfortunately, Logos never really cared to look into it. That would’ve made the sermon editor the Father of all sermon building editors, but nothing! I guess FL just wants to have something average and not excel on this important feature!

I got the same response. First time I haven't been able to get an extra 30% off that company. Shame Faithlife can't get those prices from Baker. Ironically I would have bought several volumes from Faithlife, but I'll pass as even at $9.99 I don't like the other company's apps as much.

Seems this was really a "flash"-sale - it worked earlier today, but when I came back to throw even more money at Faithlife, it was already over - the commentaries are still listed quite at the top of English language products sorted by savings, but they don't give any discount right now. :-(

I do have academic discount, BUT 5 minutes later the price was back up to $27/volume. Fortunately, I took a screen capture. I emailed the snip to a CS rep and she is hunting down definitive pricing.

Does anyone have any strong recommendations as to which volumes are specially good - especially as preaching resources. I snapped up the 4 volumes in the Gospels and Acts when they were listed too early at $9.99.

I've been looking to see which other volumes may be useful for the future. So far I've shortlisted the 2 volumes in the Psalms as the author appears to have focused much of his career in the Psalms and the Exodus volume as the author wrote the Apollos Commentary on Exodus, so has studied the book in depth.

I note Denver Seminary rate the 1 Corinthians volume as their top pick for an introductory commentary, but I haven't shortlisted that yet.

I probably have far too many commentaries, so I'm now much more selective and look for volumes that will add value to my library and especially in terms of sermon preparation.

I have John F. Evans' Guide to Biblical Commentaries, 10th edition. So not speaking for myself, but quoting (mainly freely) Evans. The first Psalms Commentary by Bullock (2015) gets a "suggested for purchase" bold star. (The second Ps. Commentary by Bullock was published later, so Evans has not read or evaluated it whilst his Guide was written and produced - hence he can make no recommendation, although saying "if I were pastoring I think I might make this my first pick when it's complete.").

The other TTC commentaries that Evans considers "worthwhile purchases, but not as first priorities" (which nevertheless get a star) are: Daniel by Pierce (evangelical dispensationalist), 1 & 2 Samuel by Chisholm (while criticizing it's briefness), Job by Estes (criticizing the fact how much the speaches of Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar get space for sermon prep), Luke by R.T. France (which Evans calls "a model vol.") and Revelation by Duvall (criticizing the illustrations part).

The other vols. he has either not seen, read or were not yet produced at the time of the writing.

I could be wrong, but I'm sure there was discussion in the forums that Logos hadn't included 2 volumes in the set. Do a quick search of Teach The Text resources excluding those you own and if I'm right you should see which ones aren't included in the set. Sorry if I'm wrong - especially as the Wordsearch site only lists 21 in the set. So maybe Logos have added the 2 volumes that were missing to the set.

This was about Psalms, but was fixed, so they are part of the 21 vol bundle

Aside:

Do a quick search of Teach The Text resources excluding those you own and if I'm right you should see which ones aren't included in the set

This wouldn't have worked, since the two volumes had no indication either in title, text or tags that they belonged to the TTT series (it was clear from the picture and the look-into), so a search for TTT as you suggested did not bring up the Psalms volumes at the time of page 1 of this thread.
