The Greek Testament by Henry Alford

Friends, I'm trying to make a decision about The Greek Testament by Henry Alford.

I've gone to the Logos site hoping to see some pages from the print edition.

On the pre-pub page http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/4169 I see the location where I would usually find samples, titled "Sample Pages from the Print Edition" but there are no sample pages there.

Is there a link where I could view the samples?

I have been trying to make the same decision.

I occassionally used Alford's Greek Testament in some seminary courses, and I own the softcover edition. I also have the free pdf format. It is not something I would use all the time, but I would use it from time to time.

It is a little dated, but is still good. It is a classic work.

However, my hesitation is that it's somewhat dated, and the amount of use I would get from it, and the pre-pubs I already have ordered for April 5. I can't get myself to pull the trigger and buy it.

I also think it is a little too pricey for something that is this dated and that is available free in pdf format on the internet.

If you google it, you can download the pdf on the internet. That should give you a pretty good idea about what it is.

I had purchased it when it first was announced ... a long time ago. I had never heard of this man, but was reading Thomas' Revelation at the time and he referenced it many times. And, because I had started studying Greek about the same time, I thought it would be a great resource for that.

Even though other comments say it is available for free, I'm preferring that all my books be searchable.

This is a great Greek Commentary, but you need to know Greek to get the most from it!

With in the last month or two, Dr. Steve Runge did an article that covered this resource on the Logos blog site. He thinks highly of the source because it actually deals with the text and what it means.

At this price it is a great buy in the Logos program, it will be more useful than ever before!
