Logos 4 Notes still not ready for prime time

After the 4.0b update, I transferred all my L3 notes to L4 and was excited that I could now make serious use of L4. But not so.As others have pointed out the simple notes organizational capability of L3 is missing from L4. Some of my research notes needed the context of that organization to make sense.

Touching one of my larger note files sends L4 into a state of suspended animation for 30 seconds to several minutes.

Opinion? I've been wondering if I should split larger note files into smaller. For example I have one note file per Bible book. Perhaps I should break it into smaller chunks. But that means loading more files.Does anyone have enough experience with L4 yet to recommend an efficient strategy?

Has anyone noticed that it's hard to move around in a notes file? When I scroll, it seems very jerky. I can move up or down about a page and then the program pauses for 5 seconds or so before jumping to the new location.

I tried moving a large chunk of material from one note file to another and found that the file I remove a note from will jump to some odd location away from where I left off so I have to keep scrolling back to the location of the next note in sequence. Also the file I'm adding too doesn't always position itself at the end of the note I just added.

I imagine Logos programmers are burning the midnight oil, and I feel for them. Hopefully they will be able to improve this performance.

Yes I have, and this is why I am STILLLLLLL using L3.

I remember when I was a software developer/project manger. There comes a time when a product's design needed to be started from scratch because the current design simply does not work. It was faster and cheaper in the long run to start over than to keep repairing the current system. I believe the current code for the notes in L4 needs to deleted, and a brand new development team (it needs new eyes) so a new design can be put into place.

I have not hit this issue with a Note file but have seen the behaviour that you describe with one of the clipping files that I created I'm sure that over time this is an area that Logos will fine tune but I agree that right now large files seem virtually unusable.

The good news is the notes database has a column called "Level", which currently has no effect on the notes, but it is definitely looks like it will be restored to us in the future.

We have been promised further performance improvements to the notes.. I would hold for now, but if you do decide to split them, you can drag and drop the notes from the existing to your new file, which may help

Years of L3 notes as key resources and even though (with much stuggle) they are imported into L4, but, "not yet functioning" notes in L4 keeps it from being ready for everyday work. Add the lack of hyperlinking, which was so great in L3, and, for all L4's pleasure, there is plenty to be desired to use it on a regular basis. I too hope they can soon bring L4 to at least the capacity of L3!

The great news is all the help on the forum. The downside is the amazing numbers of non-working hours I've had to invest just "trying" to get L4 operational! Please, please bring L4 up to L3 capacity, then go from there forward!
