Does anyone else think it is ridiculous that you basically have to have a top of the line computer to run Logos?
Hi David - and welcome to the forums
This is an issue that has been discussed many times on the forums - with many views expressed.
Are there specific performance issues you are having or is this a general point?
The basic answer has always been that Logos is doing a lot of work "behind the scenes" which has an impact - but, in general, most people running Logos 8 seem to see better performance than in Logos 7.

Logos is not for low end computers. Midrange would be enough If you have ssd. To be fair, Logos software does some things in the seconds more than it would take hours, days, or even years before using paper books. And also obviously, it is more complexed and needs more power than other softwares.
Graham's definitely said it. Lots of opinions. Apparently, Libby (L3) was similar. I wonder if arriving from a Bibleworks or Accordance or similar, the slowdown is too obvious.
I run an excruciatingly excessively large L7 layout (100's of linked resources) on a PC 9 years old. Probably it's a bit slow at times, but I don't notice, since no one else can do what I want. Hard to say ...
Yes.
Not having a top of the line (but not exactly low end, either) computer (and no SSD--I know, heresy, right?!), it does not bother me that searches take some time. I am even less bothered by indexing, which is quite manageable--I just do it when I have to step out for a bit. What bother me more are the incredible slow speed for drop down boxes in things like the Factbook, getting a "not responding" error when loading layouts (mine aren't overly complex, and I have only 1 custom visual filter), and the full 30 seconds it takes for me to switch from a layout to the home page, which I have basically had to abandon using.
Not really when you consider all that Logos does. I have a 6 year old MacBook Pro that runs Logos 8 like a charm. It does have a SSD drive which is almost a must for running Logos. There are a number of Bible apps that run quicker on lesser machines, but in my opinion, those apps pale greatly in comparison to the features available in Logos.
David, think of it in terms of what you want to do:
Logos lets me perform Biblical research that impossible in previous generations of the church. I've just replaced my computer (previous one broke), and I don't begrudge shelling out for a decent processor and SSD to do this.
