Problems with Notes Tool column sizing (8.7 Beta 3 WIN 8.7.0.0017)

I normally have three columns open on my 15.6" laptop.  The Notes tool works fine in this size column.

If I reduce the Notes tool width to 25% or less of the screen width, I run into problems with sizing the columns inside the Notes tool.  Implemented limits to the column dividers inside the Notes tool cause these and other problems:

  • The column dividers inside the Notes tool have limited movement capability, making it difficult to size the columns inside the notes tool to a preferred/usable width.
  • I can not make the left sidebar wide enough to click on the find magnifying glass to find a notebook.  I  have to widen the pane to over 25% of the screen width to allow me to find a notebook.
  • When the Notes tool is very narrow, I click on the button to close the sidebar, but the sidebar won't close.

Can you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing?

    Hi Philana,

The image below shows the three problems listed above.  Logos is at full screen with four columns.

    Thank you.

Seems to be the same bug that appeared on web app. Does the workaround I posted here work for you to close the sidebar?

    Hi Reuben,

No, it doesn't work - the divider you refer to does not move at all, either direction, even if I close the note, when the Notes tool is near 25% screen width or less (note #3 in my image above).

    HI Tim,

Numbers 1 and 2 in your screenshot now have cases for them, number 3 is an issue of there being not enough space, at some point it runs out of room and we can't make it smaller.

    Hi Philana,

Thank you for #1 and 2.  Regarding #3, we need a way to see a wider view of the sidebar so we can see more of the notebook titles (and filter facet names) even when the Notes tool is only 25% of the screen width.  One thought I had is a drop down list with check boxes that let the user select which one, two or all three columns the user wants to see, while still retaining the ability to adjust the column widths as much as reasonably possible. Maybe a "View" list in place of the sidebar toggle button.  It would have to coordinate properly with the other column view controls.

See my notations in image below.  Thank you for consideration for this request.

No reply needed - just peeking out from under the stack of pending fixes, hoping this might be fixed soon.  Even when Logos is at full screen with three columns, some of the symptoms exist.  It's frustrating to have to resize the Notes tool to 40+% of the screen width to get it to fully function.  I'm hoping that a solution can be found to get it to function properly at 33% or less screen width.

This was fixed in 8.10 Beta 1.

This was fixed in 8.10 Beta 1.

Not quite yet - Still can't "find" a notebook when the note tool is 1/3 the screen width.(8.10 Beta 2; 8.10.0.0006; Windows 10)

Note: Even if the divider lines squeezes any of the other note tool columns to a point the other column is unusable, that's okay.  We just need to be able to see so we can make needed selections, then close the column where we made the selections and continue working.  Having to widen the whole pane then move it back is a pain (pun intended).  That includes selections made in both the left and center columns of the note tool.

Tim, what is the My Study Version resource in your screenshot?

    Hi Myke,

It is a Logos Personal Book Bible that I created and update as I study passages in the Bible.  Early in my study cycle I select a published translation (usually ESV) and use a custom Copy Bible Verses format that puts the Bible text for my study passage and the appropriate PB syntax into the DOCX.  I then study using various resources (mostly UBS Handbooks, SIL Exegetical Summaries and other textual/translation resources) to amend the translation in the DOCX for clarity and format it in an outline diagram that reflects the flow of thought.  The process pushes me to make sure I understand what the passage says before I study to learn the meaning and message of the passage. Lesson/sermon preparation follows.

I currently have a longer list of open bug reports than I ever had in the past, and they seem to be taking a lot longer to resolve than they used to, hence this afternoon's set of "bumps" (and this isn't all of them).  A lot of bugs from other users seem to be aging also.  I think this one is my oldest.

Sorry to bug Faithlife about these bugs, but these aging bugs are starting to bug me a lot.
