Why can't I use Collections to download resources from the Cloud?
I thought I would try to reduce the size of my library's footprint on my hard drive. My plan was to do a fresh install of Logos, do a minimal install, and then use a collection I had already built to quickly sort through the resources in my library and select which ones I want stored on my device in one fell swoop. I had built a collection called Logos Streamlined Library. I had done this even before Logos came out with the cloud resources feature because I wanted to see how small my library could be if I only used the best resources or my favorite resources. I thought I would just be able to sort my library based on my Streamlined collection, select all, and download only the items in that collection.
Imagine my disappointment when I saw that my collections will only find the resources that have already been downloaded onto my device. Why do the collections only find the resources that have already been downloaded? Why don't they include resources from my entire library? I can copy/paste the rules from those collections into the library, but if I have a collection that is not based on rules, or one that is a mixture of rules and individual resources that I dragged/dropped in, I can't utilize the collection to help me quickly sort through my library and select resources to download.
Let's just say that I'm SOOOOOOOO glad I decided to try this method on a test computer instead of my main computer. Otherwise, it would be taking me forever to get my library back to where it needs to be.
Is this something Logos can fix in a future update? Or is there a good reason why collections shouldn't include resources that aren't already downloaded onto the device?

Are you sure you didn't have your library filtered to show you only resources on your device? Since all of my resources are downloaded, I don't have a way to check your scenario. However, I can filter my library based upon collection AND "downloaded to iPhone," or "downloaded to iPad." It would not make sense to me to design it the way you describe, so I am wondering if something is amiss in your attempt.

Yes, I'm sure. When I open the collection in Collections it only shows the items that have been downloaded. When I filter on a collection in the Library it only shows the items that have been downloaded. My collection has over 3,000 resources in it, the collection on this laptop is only showing the 681 I've downloaded so far (see screenshot). I agree with you, it does not make sense to design it this way, that's why I'm confused.

Different views on this - and an explanation from Andrew as to why it doesn't currently work - are at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/181056.aspx

Thanks for the info Graham. Hopefully they're still seriously "considering" making collections usable for downloading cloud resources.

I don't use L8, but wonder if it recognizes the mytag filter for not-downloaded.

If I used mytags I'd be able to check for you but unfortunately I don't. Maybe someone else can check?
It does.

So it recognizes tags but not collections? That makes even less sense.
A Collection can use rules with user tags and user ratings + Faithlife metadata, but it will only recognize books that are on the device. It is the only exception in Library, and I would urge Faithlife to correct this in Library, so that we can download Cloud resources to complete the collection.
