I ran into this, on the ' digital shelf' next to my fancy iron age linguistics book (soon to be in my mailbox).

I'm not terribly good at spanish, but not too bad. I was surprised at quite a bit of reviewers, and per the description, 70 million 'vendidas' (Wki-P about half that, but maybe 2 readers per copy).

The above Wiki article discusses the commentator. What caught my curious eye, was (a) he got in serious trouble worrying about poor people, but (b) his perspective was in keeping alive disappearing ideas from the Fathers.

I wonder (c) if it's appropriate for spanish Logos, and (d) if well linked to the Fathers. The latter would be worth it.

I think New Jerusalem's notes are hopeless (prepub). I didn't put this one in Suggestions. I suspect the Logosian spanish side splits out like the english (protestant tastes vs catholic).

The english CCB, not disagreeing, but I wonder in translations. Having spent time in the Philippines, on the protestant side, translations are a waste (to english). Sloppy. But maybe among the catholic, they'd be careful.

News to me Denise.

I did not know there was controversy on Biblia Latinoamericana Edicion Pastoral. This was the Bible we used in Religion class in middle school.

I loved that it had Yave (Yahweh). But did not know that the notes were considered marxists, nor that the Fathers had been taken into consideration for some comments.

We used to have the small green one (mine) for school and if not mistaken the large red one (both the same just fashion stuff).

I have to look around to see if I still have it. Not sure what version date was it.

Download for esword 9, not sure what OS. It says it has the 1995 version of the Biblia Latinoamericana, I would guess it would contain notes.

whole bunch of available stuff for free. The one that has the Spanish, Greek and Latin side by side was the one that caught my attention.

Hope this helps while we try to get the original 1972 version with notes in Logos 8.

If I find my old Biblia Latinoamericana (hard copy), I will compare the notes with the ones above and will post if they are the same.

I did not know there was a Bilingual version, I will see if they have it here.

If you get any files, pdf, etc. of the notes please share the link. Even though liberation theology is not quite aligned with the Spirit of the Scriptures (at least some of the versions of it), if the notes are influenced by the Fathers, they will probably be interesting.

Thank you, Hamilton. Yep, if I could find an earlier digital with notes, I'd strip the notes out, and put in a PB (presuming legal). I'm not a liberation person per se, but the Fathers would be good.

Your Amazon search also pulled the new RNJB Study Ed. Kindlized too. Almost got it, for the notes until I read the primary review:

"However, as a long time use of the predecessor volume the NJB, and as one who also owns a JB, I have to say that the quantity and quality of the apparatus of this edition has unfortunately been substantially dumbed down. Introductions to books are half the length. The number of marginal cross-references is less than half in some places. The footnotes are much less informed, shorter, and, well, skimpier." [my emphasis]

So. That means our Logos NJB with notes prepub is maybe better ... but will likely go the way of failed prepubs. That's too bad. I'd hate the RNJB to be chosen.

BTW, the RNJB text is supposed to be good for reading out loud. And Psalms looks interesting too. They got rid of YHWH, however.

There is a San Pablo Bookstore nearby, so when I get a chance I will go and try to see if they have the Bilingual Biblia Lationoamericana 1972. If they do not, to see if they have at least the Spanish version.

BTW, the RNJB text is supposed to be good for reading out loud.

The JB is/was used in a number of lectionary which requires that it be understood easily when read allowed.

NJB to the best of my knowledge was never accepted for a lectionary ... although I have a nagging feeling about the lectionary translation debate in Australia - I think they use the JB and the Canadian NRSV in lectionaries.

It will be interesting to see it the RNJB has hit the right tone for lectionary use.

As you well know, my brain didn't think lectionary .... it was busily thinking 1st century brain-listening, and how that plays out. Mea culpa!

In Bible class, we usually start out reading the passage, one person per verse. We have a hispanic lady, quite devoted and I recommended she read in her native language. She demurred, but I suspect early speaking-Bible was a multi-language affair. You'd have to assume with so many from everywhere, a bit of cacaphony (in addition to the Spirit)!
