8.10 SR-1 (8.10.0.0032) is now available
The Logos Bible Software desktop application version 8.10 SR-1 is now available to all users.
To immediately update to the current stable version, enter the Update Now command. Otherwise, the app will automatically update the next time it's scheduled to check for updates.

In what way?
I speak especially for those with limited web access. On the assumption the Windows release does no more than add "SR-1" to the About dialog, 186MB worth of download is a hefty price for them to pay.0 -

If the release number does not match the release number that I am running, I may have to research what an old version did. As I run on a PC, if a Mac user gave me a release number ahead of my own, I'd be trying to update my installation to the current version without success. I do think it is appropriate to provide an easy way to not download the new version if none of the changes affect your installation, but I think it should result in your clearly running the old code. All new installations should clearly use the new code. That works much more easily for anyone trying to support users.

In such a case just a simple note that SR-1 was skipped for Windows (or Mac) should suffice, or something to that effect, e.g.:
- current release for Mac is 8.10 SR-4 (8.10.0.478)
- current release for Windows is 8.10 SR-3 (8.10.0.395)
Then, when there are real fixes (which is most of the time) the version numbers can be equalized again.
The whole old / new distinction is spurious if the sole change is in the version number as opposed to actual fixes. Your use case (MVP supporting fellow user of different platform and getting confused) sounds far-fetched.

For this and other reasons, I about always wait a day or two before downloading Logos updates.

Given that I'm retired from a life-long career in IT (payroll/personnel for over 30,000 people), I can assure you that in this particular case I know standard practice and what actually works in the real world. To someone outside the maintenance/support role, things look very different than they do in real life. For example, the tools that Faithlife use to manage their software for testing and release may well require that the versions stay in sync. But it really doesn't matter whether you agree or disagree; my purpose was simply to point out to people reading the thread was that this is an issue with pro's and con's that need to be considered. In such cases, it is always my hope that everyone will look for alternative solutions to the problem that have lesser (or no) con's.

I'm guessing SR-1 in Windows this time round is more for a perceived parity between platforms? Or is there something else?

To my mind, the only confusing thing is why it takes an 186 MB download to change a version number. There's clearly something I don't understand.

Agree, it would be better to skip 8.10.0.0032 for Windows, and go straight from 8.10.0.0028 to 8.10.0.00XX to match Mac in the following update. There is no point to run through installation for Windows to update only number.

I'm not quibbling about the extra update (I'm neutral on that issue), just interested in the seems-to-me-oddly-large size of the download.

The update is cumulative, effectively a reinstallation. There is no delta update. If you're asking why teleologically, perhaps it's deemed "simpler to manage" from FL's perspective.

My Logos program has recently updated to 8.9 SR-1 (like this morning), and says no other updates were found when I type in "Update now". In the About Logos Bible Software window, it shows that I am running 8.9.0.0030. I have automatically start downloads set to "Yes"

Hi Ken,
If this has not updated yet, you can speed up the update by closing Logos and downloading Logos 8 for Windows or Mac from https://www.logos.com/get-started.
Then follow the on-screen prompts after you open the downloaded file. Doing this will simply get you to date with Logos, without triggering any unnecessary downloads.

The "New Document" button no longer works for me. When clicked, nothing happens (see below). Running 8.10 SR-1 and MacOS 10.14.6.
