Developing a personal study course

I've been thinking about developing a personal study course on subjects and in particular the Reformation.

This is how I envision it:

  • the length would be one month. That's not firm. It could be longer or shorter.
  • study questions at the end of each section
  • an outline for teaching this material to a class
  • a general overview of the major players
  • summary of key events, people, topics...
  • and anything else that needs to be included.
  • etc.

I know I can get several outlines or summaries from owned resources and books in my personal hard cover library. But what I don't know how to do is to actually design the course.

So if anyone can help with this, it would be much appreciated!

Who would the class be for? Adults or youth? It makes a difference in how you design the course:

Learning how to design a good course is a whole subject in itself. Perhaps Faithlife should offer a course in that in their video courses. My seminary offers a course called Learning and the Art of Teaching.

Adults or andragogical types. Thanks for the article.

Somewhat familiar with Church history. Willing to put in the work and committed to seeing it through.

I think your idea about FL offering a course(s) on this would be excellent. I'm sure there are many who would purchase it. If the price is right (Bob) I'd consider it.

Have seen some written so that the class determines how fast or slow they go as one can use any section as the last in a session. [or even restart a section the next class period without redoing too much. ]

Sure it does, but I just wanted to make sure that if anyone had anything that would be helpful for me they would suggest something that I hadn't thought of.
