Counting Pericopes?...

When I make Bible reading plans I read by pericope. Generally I like to do 1 pericope in the OT and 2 pericopes in the NT.

However, with the current way reading plans work, this means I need to know how many pericopes are in a given book or group of books in the Bible. Particularly the NLT and the ESV.

So, my question is:

Is there an easy way to count pericopes for any given Bible book or group of books? This would make the process of generating a custom reading plan bearable.

...maybe...

Thanks all for any help on this!

There is not tool or search that I am aware of that counts Pericopes. Part of the problem is that different bible versions have different pericopes.

There is a way that you could get a count

    Open the Bible Browser tool

    1. Select Pericope

    2. Select Common Divisions

You will have to select one common division at a time. You could also use individual books instead of common divisions

    3. Select the Send / Share button

Send the results to a Passage List Document

In the example below, using the above procedure I created a Passage list broken down by Pericope for common division The Law. That passage list tells me that there are 352 Pericopes in the books that make up The law in the ESV

You could create multiple passage lists, or you could consolidate them into just one.

Francis screen shot points out something I had not recognized before. When Pericope is selected in the Bible Browser, the number of Pericopes for each book or division is shown in the Filter menu. This may eliminate the need to create passage lists.
