Opening Commentaries - Is it Slower Now?

It seems that recently (since version 4b came out I think) that opening up commentaries (I normally do it from the passage guide) is taking much longer - about 20 seconds for each previously unopened commentary. Also when I try using the left/right arrow to switch commentaries it also takes 20 seconds or so to switch. Before this I was getting performance similar to Logos 3 when I switched between commentaries.

Is this a known issue, or is there something wrong with my installation? I tried defragging and optimizing my hard drive just in case, but no luck.

What are your machine specs?

I'm not seeing a 20² second response but there are delays when I click a new commentary from the passage guide. My machine isn't the fastest (specs below). But then again I'm comparing apples to applesauce because I'm running the beta.

Remember that each resource takes up system resources.

Here are my specs:

I checked out how long it takes using the passage guide to open commentaries on my little13 inch laptop, I did a bunch of them and I am not sure exactly how fast because of my inability to actually start and stop a stop watch correctly on time , but none of them are over a second to open in Logos 4.b.

Same here. (Three plus year-old Dell Latitude D820 T7400 (2.16 Ghz) 4 GB RAM, 7200 rpm 500 GB Hard disk Windows 7 with 4 GB USB ReadyBoost)

Everything seems faster here with 4b.

The spec on my desktop is reasonably high-end (below), but the laptop much less so (2.3GHz, 4GB RAM, onboard graphics, on Vista)... Both the laptop and desktop are responsive. Even the laptop is no where near the 20 secs mark (more like 5 seconds).

But it's better than 4.0b which took 20 seconds and for half that time said "Logs 4 Not Responding" in the title bar.

Yes, 4.0b takes a long time on my machine to switch commentaries. I called Logos about it and after some time they discovered some errors in the log when switching between commentaries. They are supposed to get back with me about it. You're fortunate it is only 20 seconds. I was taking 45 seconds, but it seems now to be a little shorter. With 4.0a, I was able to scroll through commentaries almost as fast as I could tap my arrow keys. I am anxiously awaiting this fix.

Does this happen with every commentary or just specific ones? Do you have a lot of notes or highlighting in those commentaries?

Thanks everyone for all your replies. Now that I am back at my computer I will try to "digest" your ideas and answer your questions. These are in no particular order (I keep looking back at the posts and then responding).

1. First of all I did a little more testing and.... A) the problem is with ALL my commentaries PLUS I discovered that I also have a similar problem (to one of the other responders) with my Bibles (switching from one to another with the forward/back arrows).

2. Opening up other items still works fine. For example, BDAG or other lexicons. Or when I do a search and open other books or periodicals. They still open almost immediately.

3. My computer is a Asus N80vn -2.4 ghz Core Duo Laptop. Vidio Card: NVidia GForce 9650 m GT with 1 gb, Window 7, 32 bit with 4 Gigs RAM. (Overall Logos 4 runs quite well on this machine.)

4. I'm wondering if my adding my Logos 3 NOTES is the cause of the problem. I must have had about 100 notes, most quite small but I had one General Note file that is quite large. I also imported the other items that I had the option to import (can't remember them all).

QUESTION: To test this possibility, is there a way to disable Notes completely? Or are they found in a folder that I can rename? Does anyone know how they are stored? I would rather not delete them completely unless I have too, because after importing, I removed Logos 3 from my computer (dumb, dumb).

5. I notice no better/worse performance since I moved to 4.0b SR-1.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE ME TOO! Jarred when you get a response from Logos I hope you will post it. I am not sure what a log file is or what it does, but if it can be repaired, I'm all for it!!!

If you hadn't modified the notes since importing you could delete them!

Type "import delete notes" into the command bar (you can then reimport them later on assuming you still have LDLS installed)

Thanks. Of course now I have no notes (boo hoo) including the ones I made since I started using Logos 4. However, it is certainly better for the program to zip along without them.

But I do have the notes file saved for the day when this issue is hopefully fixed.
