Suggestion Box: Logos 8 Mobile App

Greetings,

I have a few suggestions (don’t we all!).  I can just see the mods and developers shaking their heads right about now.  But that will not deter this dreamer.

I searched a bit (OK not a lot) for a suggestion box for mobile apps and couldn’t find one.  So why not start one I says to myself?  It might be short-lived but hey, life’s an adventure right?

In all seriousness, mods please move this to the proper maze…er…area if needed.

I’ve set up my prayer cards on the dashboard.  I press one of the prayer cards, select an individual to pray for, and then mark that individual as having been prayed for.  So I press, press, pray, press, and swipe.  That completes that prayer segment.  I don’t know about you but the “press, press, pray, press, and swipe” is becoming a bit cumbersome (annoying?).  Don’t get me wrong — like the concept!  Just wondering if the process can be streamlined.

I know next to nothing when it comes to programming anything.  So don’t laugh (no eye-rolls either) at what I suggest because it may be next to impossible!

What if under let’s say “Dad” where you’ve listed prayer for everything Dad needs, you could simply swipe left to Answer, Read, or Delete?  That would save me a press (“Done”) to go back to the list of people to pray for (That’s where the Answer, Read, and Delete swipe is).  And once you’ve selected either the Answer, Read, or Delete options, you would automatically be transported back to the list of individuals so that you could select another one to prayer for.  You could even program that action to take you all the back to your list of card selections.  So, “press, press, pray, swipe.”

Bottom line: I want to spend more time focusing on prayer rather than on pressing and swiping.

  • Highlight Double-Tap Suggestion:

I really appreciate being able to select a portion of text, and as you do so, the last styled highlight is automatically applied to the selection.  What’s neat is you can then tap on the highlighted text and the highlight bar appears.

Pressing a different highlighting selection changes the text.  However, when wanting to choose, for example, the “Pencil Underline” feature, the 3-vertical dots are pressed to reveal more selections.  I would have thought a double-click on the “Pencil Underline” would select it and close the window.  Sadly no.  After selecting the “Pencil Underline” item, one must press the “Done” button to close the Highlight Style box.

Here’s to future development adding a “double-tap” feature to the styles in the Highlight Style area! [Y]

Christopher, thanks for taking time to share some detailed feedback for us about prayers. We are actually working on a project right now where we're doing some under-the-hood work to make the prayers feature more stable and future-proof from a technology perspective. You've offered some great suggestions here and I'm bookmarking it for reference for when we start working on improving improving the prayers UX.

    Thanks again, and Merry Christmas!

  • Customized Highlight Bar Suggestion:

Given that everyone’s highlight needs are a bit the same and a bit different, what if the Highlight Bar could be individually customized?

Currently, there are six icons that are locked in to the Highlight Bar.  What if you could customize it that with the highlights you most often use…up to 10 or even 15 icons?  And what if your customized Highlight Bar selections would be auto-saved?  And what if you could have numerous customized Highlight Bar templates for multiple aspects (eg. Bible Study, Devotions, Prayer, etc.).  OK that last area may be a stretch but the first two areas would be really cool!

    Appreciate what you guys do!

The highlights shown in the highlight bar should be the last six you used - are you not seeing that?

I know this isn't the same as your most used highlights but it goes some way towards that.

Good idea. I typically use only a few I like, and then never all the defaults.

While I was trying out your idea, I stumbled into another of their bugs. LOL. I was trying to edit the lower highlight, without success. Then, to test highlighting, the middle selection, which incorrectly presumes a single word lookup (which one?). Sigh.

Just my own thoughts, the last six creates a mess .... if you do an unusual highlight, you loose your favs, and unexpected re-ordering. One opinion.

  • Switching between the Options / Menu Screen and the Full Screen.

So here’s a scenario that is close to giving me vertigo.

Upon opening either the Faithlife app or Logos app, you are presented with what I call the “Options” Screen.  Here you have the upper bar and lower bar to make selections.  Tap anywhere on the screen using one finger and you are transported to what I call the “Full” Screen.  Tap it again: Option Screen. Tap it once more: Full Screen.

While reading and scrolling and reading and scrolling in Full Screen mode (using one finger), I somehow manage to tap the screen causing the screen to go in to Option Screen mode.  Another press and I’m back in the Full Screen mode but not exactly where I was reading.  So I have to scroll until I…and I’m back in Option Mode.  Arghh!

Does anyone else experience this?  I’m starting to get dizzy!  It reminds me a bit of the TV’s of yesteryear (pre-remote) where every now and again you’d have to adjust the framing (vertical Sync) by twirling a knob on the TV.  A lotta fun.  If you have no clue to what I’m describing, you don’t know what you’re missing!

Anyways, I’m wondering if the development team could perhaps alter the Option Screen / Full Screen process by pressing 2-fingers onto the screen instead of just one.  In other words, a two-finger tap would toggle between the Option Screen and the Full Screen.

    Happy New Year!

Pressing the the 3-vertical dots on the Highlight Bar takes me to the last six highlighting styles I've used most recently.  What I'm referring to is the Highlight Bar which includes the 3-vertical dots.  In other words, adding the highlighting styles I desire between the trash can and the 3-vertical dots.

Graham, if you saying that the last 6 highlights should be appearing between the trashcan and the 3-vertical dots on the Highlight Bar -- that I am not seeing.

    Yep...agreed.

No - I see the same behaviour as you.

Apologies for my earlier response - I had missed this was in the mobile app forum.

This may seem insignificant, but it would be GREAT if mobile ed videos didn’t launch in full screen. You can’t watch a video and follow along in the transcripts or take notes while watching a video without multiple clicks to pop out the video. I’d like to be able to watch the video in just one pane and have the other free. It’s wasted real estate to force the black back drop and the full screen video.

    PLEASE consider fixing this.

PS. Yes, I’m aware I can split screen the mobile app with FL Study Bible app or the web app, but this shouldn’t be necessary.
