A New Index Every Time?
Hey all,
Quick question for you. Normally Logos runs along fine and I never have any problems. However, today I noticed that every time I open up Logos on my PC it starts a new index. (Not a short index for a new book, I'm talking the looooong index).
I haven't purchased any new books and it doesn't say anything new has downloaded. My PC is powerful and Logos is up to date.
The only thing I can think of is yesterday I changed my Logos password and ever since I entered the new password, this endless loop of indexing every time I sign in has started.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
I've attached my logs in case that helps.

I am not an expert at reading logs, but I do see that it is rebuilding the indices. In particular, I note: "Re-indexing because the existing index is corrupt or missing."
What is the status of free space on your drive? Have you run a health check on the drive?

One question to add to JT's based upon what you've written above - Have you allowed the indexing to finish?

Hi JT and Scott, Thanks for posting and offering your help. I really appreciate it.
To answer your questions:
1. I have 1.24 TB of free space on the drive. I haven't run a health check (not sure how to do that) but no other programs have shown any signs of problems.
2. I have allowed indexing to finish each time (I just happened to grab the logs after I opened the program back up and the indexing started again. Usually it takes a few hours to finish but starts all over again each time I open the program back up).
3. It is an SSD.

A full fledge techie will need to take a look. You can wait for one or call Logos directly during business hours.

This is unusual and recovery will take a few hours.
Delete the following folders:
- C:\Users\ryanb\AppData\Local\Logos\Data\5mz3uvos.o12\LibraryIndex -----> index is corrupt
- C:\Users\ryanb\AppData\Local\Logos\Data\5mz3uvos.o12\DownloadManager. ------> downloads were expected but cannot be processed
- C:\Users\ryanb\AppData\Local\Logos\Data\5mz3uvos.o12\UpdateManager ------> downloads were expected but cannot be processed
then restart Logos.

Hi Dave,
I deleted the 3 folders, restarted Logos, allowed the index to complete, closed Logos, and then reopened Logos and the indexing started all over again. Any other suggestions you might know to try?

Thanks JT,
Here are the newest logs. I emailed customer support but the auto-reply sounds like it's going to take a day or two to get back to me.
In the meantime, I noticed that it appears the indexer gets to about 50% before it's "done." Maybe it is just appearing to complete? I'm not sure. Perhaps the logs can clarify?

If those are the complete logs (collected after LogosIndexer.exe has finished running), then it's almost certainly crashing before finishing building the index (which would explain why it restarts indexing every time you run the program).
It could be caused by a corrupt resource file or some other problem. Tech Support can help troubleshoot this when they connect to your computer.

SOLVED - Just to give a closing update to anyone who might have stumbled across this after encountering the same problem, I wanted to post the solution. I did reach out to tech support and ultimately, what ended up working for me was to delete all of the index logs that Dave mentions above combined with deleting the Library Catalog and Resource Manager folders. (Effectively I was deleting all my indexes and all my resources). When I restarted the computer it began a full download of all my resources (something like 50+gb) and then spent several hours re-indexing. When it was all finished, I had to re-build my PBB books (which was easy as the metadata remained) and viola! Everything worked again.
