Using Canvas

I am just starting in Canvas and think I am missing some 'How Tos'. I can't seem to bring in images from Media or sections from my resources. The only thing I seem to be able to add are text boxes that go with a word from my Bible verse. I am teaching a class and would love to be able to create a 'friendly' handout. Is there something I am missing or can you point me to a training video (I have not been able to find one) that can help me get a better grasp of the Canvas capabilities?

I'm not a heavy Canvas user and hopefully others who use it much more will be able to comment specifically regarding your questions.
