bumping is bring a post that has not gotten a response up to the top of the forum in hopes of getting a response. As I cannot repeat the same "bump" on each to the posts I bump, I number them, use different forms of the word bump or otherwise insure that they are accepted.

Not at this point. We have a spec for a facet that allows you to drill down by icon, color, and highlight style, but I'm not sure when we'll implement it. I agree it would be really handy.

    Please include this in L9!

This is one of those things that you might not know you need, but when you get it and use it, you're like, "Man, I coulda used this a long time ago!"

    Agreed. Please prioritize this spec.

Several years ago I began using different note icons as a way categorize notes and make them "pop" while reading the text. Manually going through my 4,500+ notes would be tedious, at best.

Now I would like to either (a) add tags to those notes (preferred), or (b) bundle all those notes in a notebook (less preferred, but workable).

I think this is on this subject....

One of the things I do is tag all my notes as to what they are about... "Apo for Apologetics". "Chu for Church", "Sav for Salvation", "Lea for Leaders", etc and etc. You can have many tags on a note.

Then I can search for that "topic" in my notes and all the notes( and verses for that topic my notes are anchored to a verse) for that topic appears. I use about 25 categories and it works well with me. It's a take off from "Sharpening the Sword by Al Pickering" which I got into some years back. It has served me well...

Also, within the topic.... I have "Prev: verse and Next : verse

xn = Christan man=man -- Acts 11:26 "....and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch".

Barney Fife is my hero! He only uses an abacus with 14 rows!

The idea I originally posted here didn't work.

This was the closest I could get to the question I have. For years I was able to sort my notes by icon type, but now when I try to do that, I can't find any way to make it work.  What happened???  It would make my life a lot easier if i could sort them that way as certain icons go to certain types of notes and there is no other way to find them as they're not based on anyt of the other things you can search for.  Was this ability removed?  if so can it be returned?

I admit, I have no idea what is meant with "search your note icons"? Search in a book or bible to see if there are notes attached? search in notebook for icons? something else ? does this have to do with visual filters (so that icon shows in a bible)?

That is a reasonable request although I don't recall ever being able to do it. Add it to Roadmap | Faithlife and drum up support. I would expect it to e well received.

What I mean by searching for the icons, is for example to be able to sort them so that they are listed by icon type: like all the red squares with an exclamation point, or all the green circles, or whatever icon you're looking for.  As I said, I used to be able to sort my notes that way, but now I can't, or at least haven't been able to figure about any way to do so.

Well fine ... except hat I do not know what it is about. What is this actually supposed to do? What does "for every note I use a Note Icon to identify my study notes..." mean? different icon for each of a few hundred notes? how and for what purpose would such a search be used?
Could someone describe a scenario in which one would want to search for a note icon?

I am using different notebooks for different "categories", each with its particular icon ...via visual filter settings in bible etc icons of relevant notes from a notebook are shown and note easily accessed.

I use different note icons to distinguish if the note is a question that needs answering, if the note is an excerpt/summary of a text; if a note is "temporary" as in for a particular project; and if a note is my own thoughts/musings. I periodically go through my question notes to see if they are still relevant - this is where a sort could be helpful.

I used to be able to sort my notes by icons and would like to be able to do so again. I wasn't aware that I'd need to give a reason for how I use note icons or why I would need to sort them by icon.

Oh dear ... I was simply asking if someone could explain to "me ignorant logos user" what was being talked about with this matter of "search note icons" since I do not understand WHAT this functionality would do (please note, I am not asking for WHY).

Did my response solve your question?

Thank you, MJ. Smith, for your note and an example of for what this functionality could be used. I seem to have a total misconception of the original question's wording => "SEARCH Notes Icon". Where (in which resource) would I be searching for the icon?

Thus far, I have just placed notes with categories such as you mention (e.g. unanswered question, certain project, clippings, my own study) each in a different notebook. The notebooks have a different color icon for easier reference, so that while coming across a note in a particular resource I know if it concerns an unanswered question, a clipping, my own study, etc.  Periodically, I have a look at the notes in a particular notebook to see if a note is still relevant or should be deleted from the notebook.

Each note that you create in Logos can have an icon. There are lots of choices -- one that looks like a post-it note; one that looks like a paperclip; one that looks like a quotation bubble; etc. Many of us use a categorization system to identify what that icon represents. For example, all notes primarily authored by me that are analytical get the post-it icon. Excerpts from somebody else get marked with a paperclip if the note is doctrinal, the square-quotation bubble from something that is more devotional/application based, or the quotation bubble for pithy quotations I want to keep handy. I also do what @MJ does with questions, project notes, and the like.

The request here is as to whether there is a means of searching for specific icons, filtering for them, or sorting by them.

You aren't looking for the "why" answer, but the rest of this thread does a pretty good job of explaining how such a search feature would be useful to those of us who classify by note icon (and color!).

    Phil/All:

I thought I would check in and ask if there has any progress in this regard? I tried searching a few different ways, but couldn't seem to find any updates. I think it would be very helpful to search for/filter on note icons by type and color.

    Thanks in advance!

    All:

I would also like to ask if we could get an update?

Being able to use different types of note icons, at this point, is really not a super-helpful feature. If we could search/filter, however, based on the type of note icon/color and also the presence (or lack) of an icon--perhaps baked into the Docs Search--then that would be a very powerful feature for organizing/searching our library.

Thank you! I looked for it, but couldn't seem to find it. I've voted there and made a plea to (hopefully) push things forward!

It may not be helpful to you, but it is helpful to me and others.
