What's the best free PDF to Doc converter?
I simply use the one built into MSWord - what platform do you want it for?
I had forgotten MSWord could do that. I am trying to convert a book, but it seems like MS is struggling to do something that large. I also tried two online platforms, but maybe the same problem.

Hi Jordan:
My experience is that Word is generally the better choice. The results tend to have fewer of those odd 'text-box' sections that many other converters produce (and probably won't work as nicely in the PB compiler). Plus, if the PDF has live or functional footnotes, Word usually preserves that and the compiled PB should have them, also. (E.g., many of the PDFs at CCEL.org are successful with that aspect.)
I agree that Word is usually the best choice. Another choice is Calibre which converts a whole bunch of stuff
There are free programs to split PDFs in two. I once used one called 'PDFSAM' (for Split And Merge). It worked well then, but I haven't used it in years.
Thanks Robert. PDFSAM works great. I had to divide the book in portions of 25 pages each for MS to be able to convert it, but that's fine.
