What did I just install?

I already had beta 2 running, and I went to check on the indexing status, and the tool tip didn't pop up.  So I right clicked on the Logos icon in the tray, and it had a menu that said "Install Update" and "Hide Icon" and so I clicked on the Install Update, and it did something and restarted Logos and starting indexing again.

What did I just get? Is there anything to indicate what was updated?

These files in the resources directory are all dated today, so I guess I got a resource update.  (If we get resource updates daily, I hope my CPU doesn't burnout from indexing :-) )  Any other way to tell what's new? and would they have been installed without me clicking on the Logos icon?

Nevermind...they were dated yesterday. I don't know what I got. An App update? FYI I installed beta 1 yesterday, XP SP3 this morning and beta 2 at noon. And the unknown thing late this afternoon.

This is an example of what many of us are concerned about, for example much of what you list as downloads or update downloads here I will not use. So the download and subsequent re-index is a waste of precious time and resource of my system. I have no interest or use with for example any of the lectionaries, many will get tremendous use out of them and not out of resources I may use. The prime example for the need of choice in downloads and updates.

Frank (and Todd) I agree.  As a fringe geek user I want to see a list of updates.  I actually read changelogs and Eula's (normally) and things that most people simply ignore.  But I do read them.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

FYI I put in a feature request to have an update management system to allow you to control which updates to download when and possibly (if we have enough time) to have it control the indexer too. I understand you guys want as much control over the program as possible and I encourage you post other places you feel you don't have that control, however I can't promise as to what we will be able to squeeze in to the 4.0 release as we try to finish getting the program stable and optimized. If anything you will most likely see these improvements in future releases.

Thanks George. Bob mentioned something about future upgrades. Will wait and see. It is comforting to know that even though 4.0 will not have all of what we are used to in 3.0, many more of them are being considered for later versions.

Back to my original question...what did I install?

If I see the Install Update menu on the Logos icon again, should I not select it?

Should I wait until the weekend?

It would be especially nice to know if it was a bug fix or a minor resource update.  I hope not to be indexing all day every day this week. Unless it's necessary, of course.

(Just imagine if we could capture the heat generated by all of these processors indexing right now and use it to heat water to power steam turbines).

As a software developer you don't often get the satisfaction of having real, material, physical results from your countless hours of code writing. It does bring some degree of satisfaction to think that my hard work may actually be warming your house right now. :-)

This winter, when I'm cold, I'll just throw a new resource on the indexer.

Slogan idea for Logos marketing: Keeps you're coffee warm.  In the box you can include an attachment to set your coffee cup on the CPU.  [:D]

Lol oh man cracks me up. I wish there was an easier way to update an index.

Indexing was so warm that it shut down my laptop a couple of times (99% CPU on Core 2 Duo) before I switched on a household fan. It was a cold night in Oz!

Sorry it took a while to respond, what is happening is it notices when a resource is missing and automatically downloads it in the background, so when you saw 'Install Update' it had to have been missing resources. We are still aware about the limitation of the indexer and its downloading, we are trying to fit in some sort of content management system, but I can't guarantee it will be included in the 4.0 release.
