Logos 8 on a 2020 Mac Air

My computer needs to be upgraded and I've been using a 2012 MacBook Pro. I am on a budget at the moment and I am considering purchasing the new 2020 Mac Air. Is anybody here using Logos 8 on one of those? How's performance? I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I was using Logos 8 on a 2011 MacBook Air (I think), then a 2013 MacBook Pro. Ran fine for me, although I don't use a lot of visual filters or collections.

You'll get better performance both with a larger SSD and more RAM, of course.

It depends on your library size, number of tabs, collections, rules,... I have a MacBook Pro 2017 with SSD and enough RAM, but I find Logos to be quite slow. You will find in the forum that the lack of performance is one of the more common complaints.

Having said this, I believe that or most users a new Mac Air with SSD should work just fine.

You can go to Geekbench and compare the performance of your 2012 MacBook Pro with the 2020 MacBook Air. That might help give you an idea. See here: https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/search?q=2020+macbook+air

The biggest factor in Logos performance is having an SSD. Did your 2012 have a HD or SSD? If it had an HD, you'll be amazed at the difference.

At first it had a HD, then I replaced it with an SSD. You’re right, the difference was amazing. The only downside is that it runs hotter after that, but performance wise, the difference is day and night. Thank you for the link. I could find my machine and compare it to the Air. My doubt will be if the i5 (quad-core) will make the difference for Logos. I’m more inclined to get the I5. Thanks again. God bless.

16" MBP screen is 3072x1920 that is 20% larger than 2560x1600 on 2020 MBA (pixels per inch are identical). The 16" MBP has four USB-C ports while 2020 MBA has two USB-C ports. 16" MBP has touch bar while 2020 MBA has function keys.

FYI: Configuring 2020 MBA with 8 GB Ram reduces price by $ 200 (amount of Ram usage depends on open application usage). My purchased Logos library uses 134 GB on a 2019 model 27" iMac 5k with 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 having 64 GB Ram and 1 TB SSD.
