Isn't it about time to introduce an iPad specific forum?

Hello- I didn't know whether to post this under suggestions or iPhone.  With the release of the Wi-Fi only iPad on Apr. 3, wouldn't it be cool to have an iPad specific forum? I know the app will be very similar to the iPhone version (maybe exactly the same initially), but the iPad is a different creature than the iPhone/iPod Touch.

sdg,

Will

I agree, even though I haven't ordered an iPad yet. Hope to do so in early May.

I'm betting it will be close enough that help for one will help with the other. Won't know for sure till 1. I get my iPad and 2. I get the Logos app.

Duly noted...you are probably right, Kevin.  However, I seem to remember the devs looking @ the SDK for the iPad to maximize the device's capabilities.  BTW...I ordered the 64GB 3G iPad and there has already been a preauthorization despite the "late April" ship date: weird.

Mine has been preauthorized too and I'm getting the WiFi only edition.

Can't wait to see what Dave's cooking up for us.

Just an FYI, I will be opening and giving first impressions live via Ustream next Saturday on Notebooks.com and my own web site.

Shameless plug likely to be deleted by Logos. If you don't delete this I promise to mentioned Logos for ipad app.

Kevin, are you waiting in line, or having yours delivered?

Logos will be ready the day iPad ships!"

Now this tweet is a bit ambiguous, but since all iPhone apps will already work on the iPad without tweaking (by doubling pixels) the implication is that there will be a bigger/better/badder offering for the iPad.  If this is the case, a separate forum category would be useful.

They have already said there is a separate app, and that there won't be any more work done on the current app until after the iPad app releases on Saturday (next).

Most definitely delivered. The closest Apple store is about 2 hours from me.

I just bought a 64 GB IPod and a Bose sounddock (with battery), but have not opened them.  I am wondering whether I should wait and get the iPad instead.

    My purposes are:

    1. to have Logos available in any room of the house where I might be studing
    2. to have Logos available in my classroom while teaching (my laptop is an 18.4" and not portable for me)
    3. listening to music and audio around the house
    4. to have rather than buying a small laptop for these same purposes

    Any advice?  Thanks in advance.

And any suggestions on what else I could use either one of them for would also be helpful.

It will be perfect for this. Understand that you will not get every book of your library on it yet.

Works for this too. I plan to use mine to preach from instead of paper notes.

I think that if you walk around and want to listen, then no. But if you plan go somewhere and plop down then yes. As for laptop replacement, I am not sure there. I will have to wait and see. If you get the keyboard accessory as well then fine. But realize that you will have to have an Internet connection to use your Logos software. I know that you can download your stuff, but right now that feature is less than reliable. I have accidentally logged out and lost my downloaded library. One time I did nothing with login at all and it just wouldn't connect that day and I lost my downloaded library. Since I use an iPhone, I quit trying to download anything until this gets more stable. I do have a Verizon MiFi card so I can get internet when I have to have it. But if I just have my iPhone and no fast network access I use another program.

If you are getting a WiFi only iPad you might be interested in the following:

    http://tours.sapha.com/cradlepointmobile

If you have laptop connect USB device you can get WiFi to your iPad (or iPod) while on the go.  I do volunteer missionary work using my RV at various locations.  At my last job site I was able to get 3G AT&T service to us my iPod.

I suggest you search eBay for best buys.  They make a model that has an internal rechargeable battery if you think you will be places without an AC hookup.

The CradlePoint will accept just about anyone's USB card, so if you want you can service from a provider other than AT&T!!

I hope this may useful to someone.

I had never heard of this technology.  Had I known about it before I might have decided against a 3G iPad, since I already have a USB wireless device from Verizon.  I may decide to change my order yet!  Thanks for the link!

For what it's worth, I've had zero issues using my iPod Touch (first an 8GB 1st gen and now an 8GB 2nd gen) with the Logos app and offline resources.  So it may depend on your device, ISP, or any number of factors. But it does take a while to download each book via WiFi, and if you want more than 5-10, it will be rather tedious at this point.

The problem seems to be that if Logos iPhone  app sees that you are not in Airplane mode, it assumes you have internet access. It seems to wait and wait to get info over the web even though the data is on the phone already. I may be wrong about this and if I am I hope Dave Dunkin will correct me. But if I am right it would be very helpful if this changed so that it first looks locally and then only looks to the web if it doesn't find it.

This is a good point, as it's obviously different between an iPod Touch, which intermittently has internet via WiFi, and an iPhone, which theoretically has internet all the time.  I was wondering a similar thing about the Offline notice - personally I don't need to see that every time, but it's not as much an annoyance since I got a faster iPod.  Either way, like you said if it checks local first then goes offline, that would be helpful.  For iPod Touch/iPad Wifi users who might have a weak or security restricted signal, or iPhone users who can't get a solid data connection, wherever that might be.
