Installing on new computer

I'm installing Logos 8 on a new laptop (installed from scratch).

Old laptop had:

- 6,463 Logos Research Edition

- 1,836 eBooks

- 5 User Created books

New laptop has:

- 6,461 Logos Research Edition

- 1,836 eBooks

- 0 User Created books

How do I get the missing books onto the new laptop?

The User created books you need to recompile on the new computer.

The standard Logos resources it depends on the cause of the discrepancy ... could they be temporary licenses that have expired? If not the command "Update resources" is a good bet.

The strategy is to manually back up your old Resource folder, then on the new computer enter the Logos command "scan {path to your back up resource folder}" e.g. scan \MyOldLogosBackup\Resources

If MJ's answer doesn't apply to your case, it could be that you own some very old, maybe even largely dysfunctional resources from Libronix CD-ROM times which can't be downloaded from Logos servers and may even lack most parts of the metadata. One example in my library is the "Welcome to the R.C. Sproul digital library" resource (last updated 1980!) that basically provided an index to the respective CD-ROM.

How to get these over into the new computer, if you think you need them?

Make a backup of the old laptops Logos installation (the folder ...\Data\xxxxUnique8.3IDxxxx\ResourceManager will do) onto a USB stick/thumbdrive/external HDD.
Then connect this to your new laptop, and use the command Scan \ in Logos - this will take over all your licensed resources from the external drive that you are missing, including such old cases and also your compiled Personal Books. (I'm assuming Windows here, and the external drive letter may be something other than \, so adjust accordingly)

In fact, I believe this is the easiest way to circumvent a very large download for people with sizable libraries and the rebuilding of non-uploaded PBs. A "minimal" install will get a bare-bones number of books, and then scanning the other ones from a former installation's backup.
