Restore Damaged Highlights?

I was reading through my commentary The Message of James today and referencing some four-year-old highlights. I noticed that as far up or down the page I scrolled almost every single one of my highlights was offset from the sentence boundaries.

I'll admit that I can make this mistake from time to time, but I don't know that it would be possible to make this mistake over the course of multiple pages over and over again. Below is an example of two instances, I can provide dozens more in the same resource.

I always highlight complete sentences. This is showing my highlights as starting in the middle of words and ending in the middle of words. Can anyone tell me what happened and how to restore it?

I see that my copy was updated on 2016-10-03 (see Support Info at the bottom of the Resource Information page). Were your highlights made before or after that date? I wonder if the update had something to do with it.

I don't think there would be any way to fix it except to re-highlight.

I think there's a shampoo and conditioner for that. Might want to check with your local hairdresser.

My highlights were made before the update.

They were made on my Dell XPS laptop. They are currently being viewed on my 13" MacBook Pro which has replaced the Dell.

Try to rebuild the index for that particular book using this command from the wiki (https://wiki.logos.com/Logos_8_Commands)

    Reindex {Abbreviated Title | Resource Id} - re-indexes a single resource e.g. reindex ESVreindex LLS:1.0.710

Try to rebuild the index for that particular book

Bernhard, I gave that a try with no success.

All this discussion has made me recall a similar problem I had in the past that was resolved with the command update note attachments. That does not seem to be a valid command in the most recent version of Logos. Anyone know how I can run that command and give it a try?

It is not valid for Logos 8 as it was associated with the previous Notes tool (Logos 7 and earlier).

OK, that makes sense. Is there something else then I can do to repair the highlights?

    Hi John,

I'm very sorry this happened. I'm going to write a case for development (linking to this thread) to investigate the shift. Is this behavior only occurring in this particular resource, and only with this style or are there other resources and styles displaying the shift?

Thanks for looking into this for me!

Is this behavior only occurring in this particular resource, and only with this style or are there other resources and styles displaying the shift?

As far as I know this is the only resource, but I've taken almost 40,000 highlights in Logos so it's going to be hard to say for sure. As far as other styles, yes, every other highlight style in this resource has been affected. I'll attach just one more example, though the whole resource is full of examples:

These look like Highlighter palette styles, but the #1 looks like its part of a custom style. I'll need to know at least the names of the palettes affected but possibly the individual style names too.

I'll probably contact you via your account email should I have more questions.

100% of these highlights are custom styles. They are all from a palette called "Bible Study." The individual styles are called:

    • Blue
    • Definition
    • 1st
    • 2nd
    • 3rd

Let me know if you need more info.
