Should I wait for the new MacBook?

I'm currently in the market for a new MacBook Pro, but I'm unsure which MacBook is the best buy, and when is the best time to buy it.

Since the Apple Silicon will be planted in all MacBooks in the next 2 years, I assume that the support and development for the intel-based MacBooks will decrease whereas the development for Silicon-based MacBooks will be enhanced. I'm constantly playing pickle-ball, whether I should just go ahead and buy the current macbook (would the base-pro model be a good choice to run logos?) or wait until the future outlook is more clear.

What are your thoughts?

- As the windows-support would continue without question for logos, do you think logos will continue the support and development of the intel-based MacBooks?

- If Logos adapts and develops the app for silicon-based program to the new MacBook, do you think it'd be a better to wait to see what happens?

- If you were to recommend from the current MacBook options, which model would you recommend? I know the $1800 would be a great choice, but being a seminary student, the base model is definitely more affordable)

Waiting is the right choice.

I'm not convinced that the new Macs are going to be that wonderful, but if you want to stay in the Apple system, patience is the right choice.

I was waiting on the MacBook Pro 16 to come out, but really needed a new computer so I bought an XPS 15. Now I am glad I did. I still need to replace a 2012 Mac Mini, but it can wait if I want another Mac.

Lots of Apple users have deep pockets for tech that they can replace on a whim. Most of the Mac users for Logos are not in that category.

My 2 cents: I just bought a souped up 2020 MacBook Pro... which will last me for 7-8 years. I wanted it with the Intel processor.

Some software won't make the jump to the ARM processor. Wordsearch still doesn't have a Mac Catalina version ready after 9 months. I doubt they will ever have a program that runs on the ARM processor. There are no doubt many programs that will be left behind. I run Windows 10 on my Mac for the times I need access to Windows programs... It is doubtful that will be possible with the ARM processor.

I would say it will probably be 2 years before we will get an accurate read on whether the processor change was for the better or the worse.

Humanly anticipate Faithlife dropping support for Intel-based Macs a few years after Apple stops supporting older Intel-based Mac models for new Operating Systems (a few years after Apple stops selling Intel-based Mac models based on three past Mac processor migrations by Apple). Noticed several 2013 Mac models can run 2020 macOS Big Sur release:

What are your thoughts?

When I was younger and unmarried, I got a new computer every two years whether I need it or not. Alas (and thankfully!) that is no longer an option.

If I knew that the computer I was purchasing now would need to last me 6 or more years, I would find myself in a pickle right now. Despite mab's doubts to the contrary, I fully expect the new computers to be a good step forward... but that doesn't mean that there won't be growing pains.

The issue really is this: when will (if ever) the apps you need migrate to being native to the ARM structure. My guess is that Logos will run on Rosetta to begin with... but we don't know. I would want to wait and see how things go before investing in an ARM macBook, if Logos is a primary consideration.

KS4J is right too... once Apple abandons Intel support, FL will too. That won't happen right away. I think you can likely count on 5 years of service, but who knows how much beyond that.
