8.15 (8.15.0.0004) is now available
The Logos Bible Software desktop application version 8.15 is now available to all users.
To immediately update to the current stable version, enter the Update Now command. Otherwise, the app will automatically update the next time it's scheduled to check for updates.
Known Issue for Windows: When updating to Logos 8.15 some users will encounter a "Smart Screen" notification on Windows. This is because we renewed our code-signing certificate. Please click "Allow It" and the application install will continue and install safely. We expect this issue to go away as more customers download and run the installer.

Is there a reason why the title and the first line of the content can't agree on what version this is? Is Logos becoming fascinated by counterfactuals?[;)]

Yes - it's a mistake

I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble with Logos trying to index over and over again.
First there was the update to the software itself. And I let it index then.
Second, there was a data download waiting after the first download. I waited until indexing #1 stopped, and it started to index *again*. So I deleted the indexer from memory, downloaded the new data, and let it index again. The software said new resources were ready, all I had to do was restart the software. So I did. Then I closed the software.
I few minutes later, indexer started again. This is the third index, fourth if you want to count the one I ended in memory.
And I'm presuming that in Windows 10, we no longer get that little announcement when we install a new version to accept (I forgot what it was). It just installs, correct?
If the indexer keeps wanting to start again, what do we do to stop it? Thank you so much.

Okay, after the third indexing, the process seems to have stopped.
Forgot to mention that, when I restarted the software, there didn't appear to be any added resources in the drop-down list. I checked the Library tab, and the answer might be that there were two versions of the LXX that were updated, and maybe only one was in the drop down list. Salute!

Thanks for bringing that up, I forgot to update that.

A resource download notification in conjunction with a software update is a familiar scenario. Do you let current indexing continue to its end (I don't allow Automatic Downloading) or go ahead with the new downloads, because it may restart the current indexing and then index again with the new resource download?

The mistake was deleting the Indexer, as it will bring about the extra indexing if progress got significantly beyond 0%. Without a percent progress indicator, it hasn't started to index resources, so I would allow a new download to proceed. Otherwise, I let the current indexing finish.

You should get a notification that a new version is ready and it won't "just install" if Automatic Downloading is disabled. Afterward, you should get a notification that a new version was installed e.g. 8.15

Essentially, you can't stop it! You can only manage it as I indicated above.

Mr. Hooton:
I don't do automatic downloads either. So, to answer your first question, I withhold downloading the data (which comes *after* the new version is installed) until the indexing is complete the first time. What the indexer did was start a *second* time, *before* I downloaded the data. It had already indexed once at that point. *That*'s what I deleted from memory. I didn't think the indexer needed to run twice after a software upgrade and no data download. Unless it failed the first time, but I can't tell you whether that was the case.
As to the "announcement," I was referring to the Microsoft-related announcement that we used to get in Windows 7...Microsoft "Net" something if I recall correctly. I don't see those in my programs list on Windows 10. So I presume that's not a factor anymore with Logos on the Windows 10 OS.
Thanks for your time.

In this situation, I can only offer some advice based on similar experiences to yours, which is why it would be hasty to conclude that the Indexer did not need to run twice. The Indexer doesn't always run for Library resources, as it may need to run for downloaded datasets which do not give the "x% indexed" messages you get for library resources. We can't know more without logs.

.NET is still needed for Logos, but Windows 10 manages its updates in a more complete way than Win 7 and I haven't seen related announcements from Faithlife for Logos 8 (for at least 2 years).
